I find this a very disappointing statement, I am unsure what Jenson (or any driver for that matter) has done to justify such a comment, but ultimately the forum is here for all air their views! I think there is a big difference between wishing someone to fail and wishing them to prove you wrong.
Well me, I'm basically an original Lotus fan from late 60s Colin Chapman, Clarke, Hill, and Rindt, Andretti, Peterson, but they are really Renault nowadays, so not much interest there for me, then come Mclaren and Senna, who else ! my halcyon period !!!!!! More recently its been McLaren and Mr Hamilton obviously, can't quite stomach Lewis in a German team, it's era thing you know, no offence meant, my dad came back from the war, otherwise I wouldn't be here, born 1946, but I'm trying. So to summaries its "driver" and not team for me, or am I being "fickle"
I doubt I am alone in thinking that Jenson played a significant part in Lewis's departure from McLaren. I realise that the drivers are not angels, with the possible exception of Heikki and Bruno - and look what happened to them! - but I think Jenson is sly and Lewis, perhaps, not sly enough for this sport.
I must admit, I have never considered Button as being divisive, however now you have mentioned it, there are a number of incidents that I wont mention who's origins could perhaps be attributable to Jensons darker side !!!!!!
Never warmed to Jenson. Don't know why when I have been a big supporter of Mansell, Hill, Hamilton etc as I'm quite patriotic, Button has just never floated my boat even when he was our only real top F1 driver for a while.
Yes I agree with this. I'm not Button hater but like you for some reason I've never really been a massive fan.
yeah, I don't hate the guy or even dislike him to any extent, but I couldn't give a rats ass if he won or not. He may as well be Mark Webber for all I care.
Fair enough mate - I was just a bit suprised thats all - not being fussed and wishing someone to fail are different. I have never been a Lewis fan but warmed to him over the last couple of seasons and hope he does well, but just not well enough as to beat Jenson or Kimi etc...(I always have him in my fantasy F1 team) Its wierd really, because (IMO) it seems that Jenson was always in a no win with Lewis, if Lewis trounced him he was obviously crap and only won the WDC because of the car, yet if he held is own he was sort of seen as the bad guy. I think its fair to say it was just as much some of Lewis's antics and the generally equal performance, as it was Jenson himself that conributed to his exit! Neither were likely to win the WDC as team mates and I understand his desire to potentially give himself the best opportunity moving forward - and good luck to him!
I've never truly warmed to Button either... and I have no idea why. I don't have a problem with the fella or particularly dislike him in any way... His driving has just never done it for me I guess.
This team ain't big enough for the both of them, yes, I think you're right. The way I see it, Jenson has been pretty ruthless in his career decisions going back to his Williams days (Williams himself was pretty ruthless too back then). It also seems to me that this is a useful quality for an F1 driver and one I've come to think that Lewis lacks; yes, he can be petulant and impulsive but I think cold and calculating would serve him better in this sport.
He will probably gain it the longer he is exposed to the ruthlessness of F1. Up until recently he probably hasnt needed it - a marketing dream and a success story - but moving forward he will no doubt be more proactive and protect his long term interests. Like I say, good luck to him.
Yea, Lewis was a tad wet behind the ears as we used to say and took things at face value, that's why he used to react in an emotional manner when he got "stitched up" as he thought at the time. Lewis is learning fast but not quite fast enough I fear, his move to Mercedes was an emotional reaction not fully thought through, Button and Schumacher would not base such a decision on emotion as would Montoya, now both Montoya and Hamilton could drive the arse off both Button and Schumacher. Christ almighty, its about time the good guy came though, bring it on Lewis show em who's boss here son.
