Did anyone see the reserve match? If so how did Haidara look? Could he push Santon for a place in the first team?

NUFC.COM: Newcastle Res 3 Stoke City Res 0

After scoring five in each of the two meetings earlier in the season, Newcastle Reserves added another three to their tally against a mediocre Stoke side at a windy Darsley Park on Friday.

New boy Massadio Haidara scored after 14 minutes with a run into the box and a neat low finish at a windy Darsley Park.

The lead was doubled in the 29th minute when good work by James Tavernier set up Adam Campbell on the edge of the area and his goalbound shot took a deflection off a defender's boot to wrongfoot the 'keeper.

Jonathyn Quinn made it 3-0 in the 54th minute when he tried his luck from 18 yards and beat the slow-moving 'keeper.

Jak Alnwick, in the United goal, had to deal with a couple of half chances but other than that United dominated throughout and should have posted a more convincing scoreline as the winless run of seven league and cup games was halted.

The game saw successful returns from injury for both Alex Nicholson and Michael Richardson while there were reserve league debuts for Greg Olley and Rolando Aarons.

Team: Alnwick, Tavernier, Haidara (Aarons 79), Logan, Kitchen (Nicholson 49), Satka, Olley (Richardson 65), Quinn, Ranger, Campbell, Sa.Ameobi.
    Subs n/u: Mitchell, Streete.

I imagine Haidara will be on the bench for Metalist and may even get his debut then

I can defintely see trhis happening to give Santon a break - be good to see Campbell get an opportunity as well.

As we haven't got a weekend game after the 1st leg, I can see us putting out a strong team to hopefully build a nice big advantage for the away trip so we can rest a few before the game against Southampton

Santon will come good but is having a tough time of things, I'm looking forward to seeing this lad.

Showed it again today. He had two or three opportunities to kick on to the byline and passed them up to cut back. On the other side he goes for it and gets it in with defenders running back towards goal. Anyone who has played in a defence knows this is one of the biggest challenges.

I still think he is a right back. I think he played left the other night for Italy though, so it seems even they have changed tack on his position having always played him right for the 21's.
