Mauricio Pochettino: "The key is all the work we put into it, and into all the matches. Today it has come together and the result has arrived." "A victory only comes if you believe. But everybody here at Southampton believes. Today we believed. We should always believe." "The most important thing for me is that we now have two weeks to prepare and recover, and get the injured players back for Newcastle." "If Sir Alex sends me some wine I would be very grateful, but he doesn't have to if he doesn't want to!"
Couple of interesting stats, Hooiveld won 14 aerial duels in the game, in our last 7 games the most anyone had won in a game was Yoshida with 5. And our leading tackler in the game was Puncheon (who only played 61 minutes) with six tackles, in joint second were Cork, Schneiderlin and Jos with 3. Big efforts!
I didn't expect anything else. Some of their defending was shocking but you still have to put the ball in the back of the net.
A commentator said after the ManU game that Saints fans were going to have fun under Pochettino...how true.
In which case, read Sky's report: http://www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/261816/report Much better.
Before I forget, when Mark Chapman signed off Final Score at 6 o'clock this evening, he asked Garth Crooks what the result of the day was. Crooks, in his analytical way, just sat there and pondered, and I know why. The programme was exiting while the potentially most significant result of the season was being played out, and Crooks knew it.
Indeed that would be fine. The old wasted point is nearly always the best result. BTW, I see that Saints performance has been down graded to being gifted the win by Man City's defensive errors. Strange how it never occurs in the print when exactly the same situation occurs in reverse. Then it's always Glamour Team wins..! That's rubbish. Saints made Man City make errors. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21311313
What an effort, very very happy. The players deserve this, and I had a sneeky feeling that we would get our first big scalp today. Excellent.
Let's not forget we didn't have a great performance, Man City had a poor performance (This does not represent my view, but that of the media) Stunning win today, every player impressed me and the subs were spot on. Can't quite believe the result.
Exactly - bollocks to the BBC and the rest of them , Saints were hard-workingly brilliant and forced City into many errors. Did you see how goosed young JRod was near the end of that game, he had run himself into the ground, and so did the rest of our team. I am SO proud of them + the manager ! A City fan asked me in the pub after the game who our no. 7 was, as he was some player !!!!! How right he is.
It was Sir A Fergusons pep talk that did it, saying we were the best team he had seen at Old Trafford in the 2nd half, made the difference.
