What's the longest run a league team has gone without picking up a point?

Apparently it's 52 debutants this season.

    3 new ones started today.

Hardly surprising we can't get anything - whole load of players who don't even know each others names - only the fact they are wearing the same strip identifies them.

    Shambles.

Curses on Gaydamak - Storrie - Chanrai - Antonov - and bloody Keith Harris who introduced them into the club.

    According to this site:

    http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/Losses/0,,10794~634821,00.html

The most consecutive defeats is 18 by Darwen in the 1898/99 season.

    In the 21st century:

The most consecutive defeats is 17 by Sunderland in the 2002/03

There's nothing like putting a good run together, and this is a very good one.

On a more positive note. Cherries had a capacity crowd for the first time this season. As normal the 1200 pompey fans sung for the whole match, unlike the home fans. We also played better football than we have recently and did pretty well IMO, was expecting a bigger loss and we were not hammered and played some good footie.

But we have to accept were down and our next local derby will be probably Torquay :), if we survive till next season.

They certainly looked like they were trying, but they were, as you say, just a collection of individuals, not a team.

Well we just have to take it on the chin - and accept that until the ownership is settled and we come out of admin, this is how it is going to be to the end of the season.

I do feel for the players, it must be disheartening for them as well. I know they are other teams cast off's but their professional pride has also got to be taking a hit.

Hopefully there will still be next season.

I couldn't give a toss about the one-month senior players, it's the effect on the youngsters which worries me. After all, they'll probably be half our team next season.

That's a bit harsh. Sure, players aren't the brightest buttons and they are here for all different reasons, but it must be dispiriting for them. I know how I feel ......... and that's just watching or listening to the match. It was so bad today that I went into the other room and watched a bit of Judge Judy........ how desperate is that???? <yikes>

    True.

Wondered if anyone had read the Keith Dewhurst book "Underdogs" which came out last year? This is about Darwen FC and their FA Cup run in the late 1870's and is brilliantly written. It is a fascainting story which takes on board the origins of professionalism and the seeds of how the working class teams started to dominate against the the more Middle Class teams from the south. Curious to see mention of them on this thread although the fact that they are now reduced to being a very small culb in one of the Lancashire leagues is probably a bit ominous for you Pompey fans. I would really recommend this book.
