Thanks for clearing that up guys, I must say I went to quit a few England games at Twickers in the 70s and never heard it so that would suggest the explanation is spot-on...
well that inference wasn't intended, so I apologise if you took it that way. What was intended is what we've had -- a discussion about the song and its connection to rugby.
we haven't had a tiff for ages mate. Had to happen some time! Irony is that I'm now wandering around the house bellowing the ****ing song at lung bursting volume
Actually all in favour of Sweet Chariot when used to drown out the precious haka like this... Here's how they used to do the haka before they had large numbers of Pacific Islanders in their team and realised that some teams might get intimidated.....its another recent 'tradition'
I just love it when people are passionate about their country. It's how it should be. The game itself should be pretty tight. England have a slight edge in the forwards but Ireland have a significant edge in the backs. Whoever dominates the breakdown will win the match. I honestly feel we have a slight advantage here.
Corker you beat me to it! I'm looking forward to this game. This is a REALLY REALLY tough game for Ireland. England have a big pack and are very strong and physical. To be fair to them though, they do play a more expansive style than what they did under Johnno where they just bludgeoned the opposition into submission (Soccer equivalent: COLIN's promotion team ). England are improving all the time and are rightly installed as slight favourites here. They will target Mike Ross because they know if they take him out of the game, Ireland's scrum will suffer. It won't collapse like it did last year but he is a crucial player for Ireland. Whoever wins this have a great chance for the Slam. And no, it wouldn't be any easier for Ireland - see below................
Agreed Nuts! A close match with Ireland winning it. Wouldn't it be really typical if Ireland did manage to beat England and go on and slip up against Itlay last game of the Championship in Rome? That would be REAL Irish, that would!
I just read the thread from the beginning. That was real funny sh*t between Stan and COL. Especially as Stan ended up singing the song around his house!! Great stuff.
Agree with all of that. I make Ireland slight favourites as you're at home.....makes a huge difference when you guys play the English. You're right about the breakdown. I can see England causing a lot of problems up front.
