Not the football club, the city as a night out destination...

I am visiting tonight, have a friend who has a flat near the Armories, and we are hitting the bars and stuff tonight.

I have never been before on the beer, despite it only being down the road.

Anywhere recommended as a place to visit, or avoid?

Back to Basics was a top night out years ago. Proper house music, sexy ladies and no agro.

If it's still on the go and Dave Beer is still running it the clubs ethos will be the same and will be a good night.

Getting in wasn't always that easy and you can't go dressed like a scruffy twat, not that I'd expect that from you anyway Party my boy.

    Enjoy!!

    Alright Party,

Knowing you as the kind of guy you portray on here you need to hit Call Lane. It was voted the 2nd coolest street in Britain this year by Google and Norman was once voted in the top 10 bars in the world by Time Out. There are arund 10 bars down a street probably 80 metres long so it does the job. Are you going in a group of lads though? If so some of the bars can be a bit snooty, they tend to prefer mixed groups, but you can still get in Call Lane Social, Jakes, Neon Cactus (with 300 different types of tequila on offer) and a couple of other. Mavern just up from Call Lane is good too.

If you head to Call Lane though Id leave it until around 10pm. The bars area all open until 4am at least and it doesn't get busy until 10pm.

    Many thanks BCC.

I'm not 100% sure of numbers, but so far I think we have the grand total of ONE girl in our group, then maybe about 10 lads...We'll split into smaller groups I would've thought to enable smoother transition between venues.

I feel like I need to up my game now BCC...the 2nd coolest street in Britain?? I've cut a swathe through Witham before, but that might be pushing it.

Appreciate the info and I will suggest these places to my Leeds' dwelling friends <ok>

    I second all of this.

Whilst you're in the area, swing by Smokestack on Briggate too. Fantastic little bar.

Though if you are in a big group of lads, you might be better off heading up near Millennium Square, it's not as good but you shouldn't have any trouble getting in places.

No worries. You'll defo get in Neon Cactus anyway, they're as un-pretentious as you can get. I was never a tequila fan but it's well worth asking behind the bar for a recommendation, they really know their stuff. I ruddy love it now. In Mavern they serve gin tea in china tea cups, it sounds really ****y as I type but it's ruddy tasty and can knock your tits off.

As I said, just dont go there early though or you'll think it's both **** and dead. As a former Hull dweller it took me a while to get used to not going out at 7pm and trying desperately to get into a club at 11pm and if unlucky it was home time. It really doesn't get busy until 10 and all the bars are open late.

And Call Lane to Witham is like Sone Aluko to Dave Bamber..... Enjoy. Id appreciate a report on how your night went, always interesting to hear views of my adopted home.

Yeah I always go in Smokestack too and they're not arsey about who goes in and its just around the corner from Call Lane. Top bar. 51% Bourbon is a new...erm bourbon place as you might expect, and that really will knock you sideways.

TWF - do you live in the area or just visit regularly?

Party - what time you over there? Im going to watch City in a bar in Leeds tonight with the missus and another City fan. Going for a meal post-match though so wont be hitting the bars.

Cheers for all of this, I knew you'd come good!

We won't be heading out 'til a bit later I wouldn't have thought. Will get there in time to watch City on telly, then I'm going to trust in those who know better.

It was suggested we were heading to a number of bars rather than a nightclub, so I might end up in some of the places mentioned.

I'll let you know where I went and what I saw when I return...

I was on placement in Leeds last year so used to live in Leeds and will be moving back there in the summer.

I'm working the odd Friday in Leeds so I tend to go out after work (which essentially makes it a loss making enterprise). I'm on my way back home from a night out on Call Lane now in fact.

Is 51% Bourbon the place upstairs from what used to be Sobe? I went in early last year but we were the only people in so I haven't bothered for a while. Has it picked up nowadays?

Dunno, didn't know Sobe but it's upstairs in Hirst's Yard between Norman and Smokestack so sounds like it could be the same place. It gets busier on a Satdee night. Have you eaten at Red's True BBQ yet? I ****ing love it! Been 6 times....

And Party - I haven't paid to get into a nightclub in Leeds for about 4 years so I don't even know if they get busy what with the bars being open late now or indeed where is good. Like Carmine I was a Basics regular, happy days....

Yeah we're thinking of the same place.

No I've not been yet, I've heard good reviews from everybody I know who's been though. Last time I ate out properly in Leeds was Fazenda. Have you been there? Strange concept at first, but it's top notch.

Getting the train at 2.30, I think I'll be watching the game at my mate's flat but not certain.

If I end up watching in pub, I'll post which one.

When I used to go out in Leeds, we'd start off in Bank, then go to the Warehouse.

Which tells you how long it is since I used to go out in Leeds.

Warehouse is still there. It's all dubstep now, I'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark and say it wasn't back in your day.

    Arses!

I've just realised I'm growing a rather impressive spot under my lip.

Seems I will be visiting Leeds one friend more than was expected...
