HR explained the desicion yesterday at fansforum. There was noone else worth naming, and the move to Blackburn was on hold. Saw it as a good move to get game time for DJ and he can be recalled after 28 days if needed
Now leavws a space for an out of contract striker to come in, 'arry obviously doesn't fancy him and let's be fair he has hardly excited when he has been given a chance, I am pleasantly surprised by Jeanius and Townsend, both are far more comfortable on the ball than anyone we have bar Adel. We looked a team when Jenus came on against Norwich.
we have him on emergency call-back. what classifies as an emergency is anyone's guess.. it means he's behind Betty in the pecking order though. we're dooommmeeeddd!
I wonder if this once hyped star of the future could have re-invented himself on loan with us? I guess, water under the bridge now with DJ gone out to Blackburn on loan. 1414: FOOTBALL - Sunderland striker Connor Wickham joins Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on a month's loan. The England Under-21 player moved to Sunderland in June 2011 and has made 28 appearances for the club.
Made no sense to me to put him in the 25 man squad when we have no intention of ever playing him again this season. If he's not even on the bench when Remy and Zamora are injured then there's no chance he's going to play. Much as I rate DJ, IMO it would have made much more sense to not include him in the squad and keep the place open for a free agent like Sahar to potentially come in and make an impact.
Well he really should have made sure that he had at least one of those two deals signed, sealed & delivered before the transfer window closed.
As a boy growing up on Bradiston Road in the 1920's, my Dad's Uncle Arthur (who looks like Eric Sykes in old photos) used to tell him, "if you haven't got the cards, you can't play".
We cannot sign any new players to go into our 25 man squad as we named a full 25. If we had named 24 we would have put a free agent in there. Even now DJ has gone on loan, we cannot take him out of the 25.
But in 28 days, on 24hr notice we could bring a match fit DJ back for the run-in (assuming we're still in the game).
After 28 days you can recall him for what ever reason you want, just like Blackburn were able to sign him on an "emergency loan" despite the only emergency there being the fact their owners are fruit cakes. And as far as I know you had to name the full 25 as you had at least 25 players that needed to be named to be played. Otherwise you'd effectively have had a 26+ man squad, 24 named and then DJ or Ephraim to take the 25th spot when you decided which you wanted to use. You can though sign any player who was out of contract at 22:59 on transfer deadline day and was born on or after 1st January 1991. (or is it 92? If Townsend is in the 25 it's 92, if not it's 91)
