I bet you're the kind of person who goes into department stores in december telling the children that Father christmas doesn't exist
Lance Armstrong cheated God. Then he cheated his fellow men (which must have been considerably easier).
We have no examples of nothing in terms of isolated nothingness to base this on, and at any point from our understanding of the singularity onwards anything termed nothingness by physicists has always been a form of nothingness surrounded by and influenced by something. How can we then make judgements on isolated nothingness when we've never experienced let alone measured it's existence?
Quantum physics and nanotechnology is in its infancy and has already lead to a whole load of domestic equipment that we take for granted. In other words the maths works, we may be dealing with the intangeable, ie: things which can only exist in mathematical patterns and formulae, but when applied to control tiny bits of an atom that are one billionth the size of an atom, we get the expected results and our mobile phones, wireless, sat-nav, microchips etc all work. If we go on to define an atom as a finite entity and proof of the Higgs Particle; if experiments remain consisitent and confirm expected results based on the 'Standard Model' then this will predict other particles and explain their behaviour too. In other word we're getting close to defining an atom in finite terms and ironing out small inconsistencies in experimental evidence - then this has huge implications in terms of furthering scientific knowledge and practical everyday consumer use. I'm not sure it means the end of God though, however, religion seems to be waning which suggests they're losing ground in the great debate of where did we come from?
I don`t believe that we would club together with our European neighbors and build a **** off great particle firing machine in a circle under Switzerland unless we could maybe generate some product in the future. I`m hoping the invention of the Hover board .... please log in to view this image
Not really case closed, is it? There's only about 13 people in the world who actually understand what the Higgs Bosun particle is and what it means. I'm willing to give generous odds that you're not one of them, but go on, prove me wrong. Explain it all.
Not to be a pedant but I'm fairly sure that the effect and trace of the Higgs Boson has been identified but not the actual particle itself. However, that's how things like Black Holes and Quasars were discovered, by discovering the trace and effect of them before the logical conclusion from that could be proven.
