Wilshere has the most ability that i've ever seen in any english player. Technically there isn't an english player i've seen thats any better. And please don't anyone try and compare wilshere to cleverly, they aren't in the same league. Cleverly is a good player but wilshere's vision, touch and control in tight spaces and ability to link up play with forwards and defenders really is second to none. If he keeps progressing the way he is and stays injury free he will be labelled the best player england have ever had by the time he's 28. And Cleverley is 2 years older than wilshere and wilshere had that injury and has shown how good his is by coming back and looking like he'd never been away, especially in a side that is struggling. And wilshere has his head in the right place, you won't find him in the front pages and his feet is firmly fixed on the ground. The only thing i would like to see is possibly a better goal threat but that will come with time. He will be both arsenal and england captain in a few years.
Depends what we mean by a great player. Arsenal have been in indifferent form most of this season, and in a few too many games have looked very average indeed, and a lot of the football has been .... inert. For a "Great" player, this is where you would like to see them pull the team up in such games, driving it on to do better and get a grip of the game. As far as I can see, what we have at Arsenal are players who are collectively good or collectively poor (as a whole). We do lack that guy in the middle or can play us back into the game single-handed (ish). To do this takes more guile and intelligence and coolness than what is commonly termed "passion". "Passion" is for foot soldiers, but the great midfield generals of had much more that could be put to use in difficult situations. I see this as being one of the best indicators of greatness in a player. I haven't seen this is any of the young lads yet. Whether it will come with maturity or not we shall see.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2013/jan/17/arsenal-jack-wilshere-authority-role A good article on Jack and some interesting comments below on that Guardian blog. I been reading other fan forums (Red Cafe,RAWK and FC Barcelona Forum) and Wilshere is so highly rated by nearly everyone that comments about him on those forums. I think sometimes, it's easy to take what you have for granted, but we should be really excited about having a player of Wilshere's potential at our club and also be proud that our academy produced such a player.
He's MUCH more talented than Merson. Personally I think he's the best English youngster since Paul Scholes first emerged.
He's got some of Scholes' weaknesses as well but if he can get his temperament under control and lay off the dodgy tackles then I think he could be a massive player for Arsenal and England.
All this talk of an inspirational England captain makes me think of Bryan RObson in his heyday. I like to think Wilshere will eclipse him.
I would love very much for Wilshere to play for Madrid. He would be a starter every week for us. Cleverley would not make our team ever.
And so it starts. England has now become a really good side after beating a decent, but not very good Brazilian side in a friendly. I watched some of it and Brazil was nothing special, nothing compared to sides of the past. In the World cup, they will go far mainly down to home advantage. To me they are below Spain, Germany, Holland and probably Argentina in quality. I mean, they have a bloody striker called Fred playing for them, that should tell you how bland this Brazilian side is! As for Wilshere, the English propaganda machine has already started, pilling on pressure on a player starting off on his career. Wilshere is still not the finished article and is still developing. But he'll be made into some sort of saviour, that'll drag England through to win the World Cup. What this shows you is how average the quality of players England is developing nowadays. We should have more than 1 Wilshere now. With all the money the Premiership and top clubs generate, you'd think we would be producing better players! How many clubs are producing decent quality footballers nowadays, Arsenal, Southhampton.....The other big clubs like Man U, Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea haven't produced anything special for ages. Look to other European countries and how many world class players are Spain, Germany etc producing. For example, for all the passion that Newcastle have, when was the last person they produced that was half decent. Only players i see are bloomin French imports!
Why are you trying so hard to add your 5p to all this ridiculous, unnesessary and potentially damaging hype around the young player ?
I didn't add any hype But he is the real deal. I guess it's the English propaganda machine trying to make the English team relevant when it doesn't have a realistic chance of winning anything. I just hope it doesn't put Wilshere off, as he's at a tender age.
I think Wilshere is good, enough to surpass the talents of Paul scholes. That is the biggest compliment I can give the lad. Scholes at his peak was simply epic.
