It was Lord Longford. He took young Gyles with him on a fact-finding mission to the porn hotspots of Sweden in the early 70s. He then spent his later years campaigning to have that dear, sweet, innocent Myra Hindley released from prison. Nice bloke.
I bumped into him on th old Kent Road once. Well i say bumped into - I was the little metal dog and he was the boot.
I wonder how many punch ups happened at the world Monopoly championships. In oor hoose, a family game of Monopoly always ended that way.
My favourite bit was the "trade-off" bit once all the properties were bought you did a sort of horse-trading thing to trade and buy streets from other players to make up sets. My shop steward dad suddenly turned into some sort of Alan Sugar figure and it took ****ing ages to talk him into some sort of decent deal.
Not seen Rage, if rumours are true they are touring this year and hopefully i'll get to see them at last. Can't think of the worst i've seen, maybe i've been lucky. Best i've seen was Stone Temple Pilots at the Barras in 2001. They were ****ing incredible.
Would liked to have seen The Damned at their peak! Still touring now but wouldnt be the same! Although REM lost their way they were still worth going to see live apparently......wouldnt have minded seeing them! Saw the Wedding Present play the George Best album in its entirety a few year back, Bizarro a year or two later, but unfortunately wasnt able to see them play Seamonsters last year due to the ironic fact that i had been invited to a wedding!
Saw them in 94 at the Blackwood working mens club (was at uni) they were amazing, sadly one of Richies last gigs. On a different tangent Tiesto at the Heineken hall in the Dam was amazing.
Been to see The Fall twice! Both times he walked off without finishing the set, which nowadays is what comes to be expected! ****ing boooooo!!!!
Was into the Smith's a few year back so decided to go an see Morrissey at the Sage in Gateshead! he was terrible, no atmosphere, stroppy get trudged off without an encore! Sweaty fat tub of lard that he is! If he is the poster boy for vegetarianism then I'm pleased i eat meat! He once stormed off after someone threw a sausage at him and hit him on the head! Classic!
So did I - it wasn't when he killed himself, though, if I mind right. It was the overdose in Rome that meant it got cancelled - I took my ticket back and got the money back and as soon as he popped his clogs, folk were selling them for stupid amounts I think I spent the £13 or so I got back in the boozer.
Saw Glen Matlock stomp off during the second song because someone threw a plastic bottle at him. Another I'd love to have seen is the Dead Kennedys with Jello Biafra singing, not the band that goes by that name these days. My favourite gig was perhaps the first time I saw Conflict in Milton Keynes, much more than a gig with all the stalls - Hunt Saboteurs, Anarchist book distros, that type of thing plus a vegan cafe. Bit of an eye opener for a middle class 16 year old.
