There is not one player mentioned anywhere in this thread who is anywhere near as good as Darren Bent...if we want to seriously maintain this season's promise we need a player equally as good...so we need to be aiming more for players like Defoe who have a proven quality premiership record. Bent and Welbeck are two very good strikers and that is why we were doing as well as we did before Xmas. The manager is irrelevant in this, the club either have to stump up and make sure we sign two top quality strikers of equal quality to Bent/Welbeck or next season could be very difficult indeed. Signing player's from clubs departing via relegation is not the answer, especially when they haven't scored goals....Charlie Adams possibly being the exception
If that's the level of ambition the club are displaying then next season will be another dogfight, Doyle is a striker who doesn't score and if Bothroyd was any where near as good as some think he would have been at a PL club by now.
I can't see you getting Doyle unless we are relegated. We paid 6.5million for Doyle, You sold Bent for 24million, Doyle as the money would suggest is not as good as Bent.
has no one heard anymore rumors about klose coming to the sol and good news that were not after horse face RVN
That's why we all want you to stay up mate Nothing against Doyle he seems to do what it says on the tin hard working and a better team player than most of our lot but, we need a goalscorer first and foremost just don't think he fits the bill.
Personally I really like Doyle but not Boothroyd. Doyle is a very good player in the Quinny mould. Not a prolific scorer but what he give s the team and partners is priceless. We need to concentrate on recruiting more goals form the middle of the park as well and not think just a 25 goals a season striker. We became very reliant on Bents goals and when they went, we struggled to cope. If we had a couple of midfielders that pitched in 10 goals a piece, we wouldnt have fallen like a brick through the second half of the campaign. These so called 'big names' are only interested in coming to SAFC for a big pay day not to play for the club. Time we re-thought our transfer policy IMO and not write off these lads because they are not Ruud van Nistelrooy or Klose. The likes of those two would bring SAFC nothing at all, except a loss of 150,000 per week in wages. PS - Doyle is 10 times better than Jones. Did you see that plank on Saturday? On his arse every 5 minutes and totally inefective. We dont miss him one single bit.
I don't see that Doyle will be a replacement for Bent anyway. We need three new stikers, Bothroyd? Doyle? Marquee signing/Bent's replacement??? add to that Gyan. Noble and Lynch should go on loan to the championship to get some first team football. Just make sure we put a recall clause in.
Can we not think better than this - Crouch (again)? I worry about next season. We need quality and there aint much of that available or who will come to the northeast.
Exactly. Doyle harries and chases down and keeps hold of the ball, that allows the midfield to get up, and we've seen proof in recent weeks that both Jordan and Sess can finish. It's hard for a midfield to get up when nothing sticks up top, Doyle fits the bill for this perfectly.
This, again. Go on to any Wolves forum and have a look at what they have to say about Doyle, you will be pleasantly surprised. He add's so much more to a team than goals, definatley the type of player who will fight to get you out of a slump too.
Doyle came on late on Saturday, but he was straight into it, chasing down, running and harrying. We need this, we need EXACTLY this. And the lad had been out a month injured. Jarvis was excellent as well, he'd be a grand signing, but i dare say he's top 4 material now he has an England squad place.
Kevin Doyle would be a great addition to the squad. If Wolves go down I can see us getting him- otherwise I can't. Nobody said he'd come to replace Bent's goals, but he would give us more options up top and a stronger squad. He'd be a great buy! Bothroyd, I'm not a fan, but he's free, so can't be much wrong with it. Rather have Doyle, but I'd take him. If it were up to me: Gyan and a quality, proven, ã15-20mil striker as our first choice. I wouldn't mind Gameiro. Some of the names I've heard in recent weeks boggle the mind though, like people suggesting Lukaku or Cavani. Get real.. Doyle and Campbell would be my third and fourth choices. We'll need someone to fill a gap while Campbell is out, so a loan would be good here. Welbeck again if possible, if not, we'll see.. Sturridge might benefit from another loan if Torres, Drogba and Anelka are still around? That's buying Doyle and another expensive striker, with a fourth striker on loan to cover Frazier's absence. Add to that a CB from a relegated team on the cheap (Samba, Johnson, Dann) and then a wide-left player and a goalscoring CM, and I think we're all good. 5 buys and a loan.
Spot on. Reto Ziegler (Bosman), Samba (ã7million), Johnson (ã7million), Doyle (ã8million), N'Zog (Not my choice, but most likely - ã8million), Bothroyd (Free), LOAN STRIKER or DANNY GRAHAM (ã4million). Works for me, ã34million outlay, so Bent money and a ã10 million. Far from unrealistic. Defoe's a lovely thought, but he's a Landaner, not gonna happen.
Would prefer Elmander, free. Not a 20 a season man but a big physical presence who gyan and the Sess could feed off. If we get DW back permanently gives us lots of options. Cannot replace Bent so lets not try. If we cannot get DW go for defoe.
I'd have Shane Long over Doyle, finally hitting awesome form after years of promise and would be available and affordable
