Won the NACL with Cruz Azul. That's 3 out of 5. Might take a break from the Pentagon Challenge as a bunch of international jobs have become available. I'm thinking I could get to the top of the hall of fame. Edit: Yep, just got the England job and it's the best squad I've ever seen.
Something that I've never seen before: Man U just completed an expansion of Old Trafford. It now seats 100,000.
decided to start a new save as I wanted a new challenge. Decided to manage Wales as I thought that it would be very difficult but it wasn't really. easily qualified for the World Cup and wales had a tough group. And got to the quarter final only to be beaten by the host Brazil 2-1. My tactics are amazing, now going to try to win the Euros
I started one with Saints and was consistently getting 8th or 9th spot which got a bit tedious! Who to start with now... Might go for Villa...
I definitely think it's better to start at the bottom and work your way to the top. You always have something to aim for and you get the full FM experience. I've been playing the same FM12 save for over a year now. I've got to 2039 and there's still a ton of stuff to achieve. Starting with a top club and playing a few seasons before getting bored and starting again makes the game feel a bit empty to me.
Bloomin hell! Who did you start with? Might start with Bradford in League 2 and work my way up... The thing is... if I got offered another job while at Bradford for say... Derby who are 2 divisions higher, I wouldn't take it as I like being loyal and all that! Plus I struggle... I normally get bored with my save after 2 seasons which is a problem!
I started unemployed, with the ambition to complete the Pentagon Challenge (win the Champions League on every continent). First job was with MP Black Aces in the South African 2nd division. Up to this point I have managed: MP Black Aces Enkopings FC Zwolle Seongnam América (MG) Philadelphia Union New Zealand U21 Orebro Osijek Empoli Nottingham Forest Sao Paulo - won Copa Libertadores Kaizer Chiefs - won African Champions League Cruz Azul - won North American Champions League England Nottingham Forest again It might be that loyalty that results in you getting bored. Having ambitions for your manager rather than for your team is important. Try and get an impressive trophy collection and get yourself into the hall of fame. I'm the top manager ever in South Africa, and 8th best English manager ever.
I've seen the high 90,000s previous, but not 100k+. I'm only a good seven or eight seasons into my save; my eye wandered for a while, as the Steam holiday sale drew my attention away to all of the impulse buys I'd made.
Yeah true, doing a full career is hard to get into but it can be fun. Last year I did ATM (Malaysia), Shenhua (pre-Drogba/Anelka), then Zulte Waregem, but it wasn't really going anywhere and I gave up. I think I'm in the habit of just starting at Saints and going forever.
Has anyone ever had to games in two days? Im playing Cardiff on the 26th of December then Reading on the 27th.
Yeah Christmas time is abysmal! My team get exhausted and we don't tend to get any form back till about mid january.
Joe - I fancy doing a similar game style, what was your starting league setup? Did you just load every league in the world?
Nah, I started out with just South Africa loaded so I could get into the African CL quickly, but I wouldn't advise that. I eventually figured out that managing around Europe for a while is the best way to improve your reputation, then you can worry about winning Champions Leagues when your reputation is already high enough to be linked with the top clubs in each continent. Sweden turned out to be the key to my success as seasons are quite short and I was able to take a club from the 4th division to 2nd division quite quickly, and almost entirely relying on youth. That did enough for my reputation to be approached by FC Zwolle (Dutch 2nd division) and then Seongnam the season after which was where I lost my CL virginity. In conclusion, just bounce around Europe for a while and try to anticipate where you'll be in a year's time so you can add/remove leagues accordingly. (unless you have a PC capable of running all leagues at once, in which case good for you, you lucky bastard.)
Fair enough, cheers, will do this. How well does the add/remove leagues system work? For example, if after two seasons, I added in England, would James Ward-Prowse be 19 with two years worth of development, or would he be 17 with original stats?
The former. I haven't noticed any problems with it, except that it seems to load more players than it needs to. I eventually ended up with a full squad of players loaded for literally every team in the game, no matter how insignificant. Seriously, In my game now you can look at all the clubs based in the Northern Mariana Islands and they all have a full squad of around 25 players. My laptop struggles to process all that. They might have fixed that on FM13 though.
Contrary to Joe's advice, my first job is at South Africa's Witbank Spurs, purely because of all my initial job offers, they offered me the most money. Let's do it, SA.
Are they even in the 2nd division? I swear during my time at Kaizer Chiefs they were always in the Prem.
