Just watched Gazza at the charity event, awful and didn't expect him to be that bad. Turned it off after 30 seconds, such a shame and not nice to see. Unfortunately he's going the same way as George Best. A footballing legend he will always be though.

It's an illness brought on by another illness (bi-polar), although the outcome looks inevitable, I pray he gets all the help this man deserves for the joy, entertainment and memories he has brought to millions of people. The best midfielder England has produced in my life time, he really could have been a world great up there with Maradona, Pele, Messi and Ronaldo. He was that good.

Tragic waste of talent, but nowt to do with booze. He knackered himself in the Cup Final v Forest and was never quite the same again. His addiction now is really sad, though.

Didn't he beat his wife? Can't have sympathy for people like that.
Going back to George Best how he got a liver transplant is beyond belief! It makes me Wonder if someone further down the list lost their life to allow him to continue boozing for a couple more years.

Aye, I felt the same way watching that vid.
Turned it off too. I don't want my image of the bloke blighted by what he has become.
Some of my greatest footballing memories involve Gazza.

The thing is, as tragic as this all is and as human beings we don't want this to happen to anyone, but Gazza has had every chance to pull through this over the last 10 years and keeps falling back.

He has the very best therapy, medical and supportive assistance known to man but the simple and awful fact is if you don't want to help yourself, then its doomed from the start.

There are hundreds of people in this country that suffer likewise, without all the opportunities he has had, in his life, who fight their conditions and hold down jobs and raise families.

Hard as this may seem, I'd sooner see those people afforded help than this self centred individual.

Separate Gazza the footballer from Gazza the man. The former was one of the greatest players in our history. The latter is a self obsessed attention seeker who won't help himself. Maybe if should get a job and get on with his life and then he'd have less time on his hands to get drunk and crave attention.

I can have little sympathy with that.

Having seen alcoholism and drug addiction first hand (working for the NHS), some people who end up depressed turn to the bottle and/or to drugs - it is often seen as they should simply say "no" but it isn't always that easy IMO! Before working in that line, I always thought "It's their own stupid fault, why should the country waste money on them to get them better, they should've said no in the first place" but often it starts with one drink ever few days which turns into one a day and then much much more! Sad reality! (Although, to a point, I still think that some people don't deserve the amount of help they are getting - i.e. Gazza gets left alone for 2 minutes and decides to neck a pint after a lot of famous people have spent a lot of money to get him over there - this, as Cest says, is attention seeking)

Such a shame that he can't kick this habit, he could have been a brilliant coach or part of a team's back room staff. Good luck to him, he needs it. It's always more tragic when the person is so talented, especially when they're still in the game like Amy Winehouse watching them fall apart leaves the fans feeling hopeless and worried.

On another note, did you know that people die from alcohol abuse in Sunderland more than anywhere else in the UK? Saying that, Steve Bruce was in charge when the statistics were compiled.

Comes as no surprise to me that the following 5 places after Sunderland are all in and around Liverpool...drowning their sorrows as United stroll to yet another Premiership trophy.

London came near the bottom, probably because it's £40 a pint.

There is a bit in that Gazza video at 1.10 Everton vs Spurs, I was at that game sat in that corner at the front I remember that very bit of skill. I must have been about 9 years old. My Grandad was an Everton fan. Everton won the game 2-1 and Beardsley was even more impressive than Gazza.

I don't manipulate facts to be biased like the bindippers do though, I just go out of my way to find the facts to make them look ****. If I manage to enlighten anybody else along the way then that's just a bonus really...

Cest, I'm not usually a reader of the Daily Mail pal, but I'm afraid by default that anything negative in the press relating to Liverpool automatically becomes undeniable fact. We may be able to question the headline's credibility since the Daily Mail has a history of unfounded lazy journalism but because of the accuracy of the Merseyside statistics it may just get thrown out, you might have to take it on the chin, wash it down with a few pints!
