I had just moved to San Diego when that happened, but what I do remember was how foolish the military's/pilots decision was to try and land the plane, with an engine down, at Miramar when there's a huge bay and ocean he could've crash landed in. Why risk their lives when it's not necessary? Ridiculous! I hadn't remembered the deaths, such a shame. What was University City's reaction? I know it crashed in Clairemont right by University City.
Yes sir! Tough season last year, injuries to key players like Utley and Howard didn't help. And then the Hamels situation... But since I've been a football/soccer player since I could walk I'm more of an Arsenal fan if I have to split my time.
Thanks buddy! I appreciate the help! Definitely a great place to watch matches (if I get up early enough!), otherwise I have to resort to Justintv or Arsenal Player. I always rather watch matches with other fans though!
The declaration they signed ??? I'm surprised you don't know about it. It was big news at the time after the crash. Also, although pilot error was a factor in that crash, I don't think he had time to turn around and try and ditch in the Ocean and there's no way he'd try and ditch in the bay . . the place is full of ships. He was under two miles from the runway when he crashed. I'm surprised that you don't know about the Pendleton Boom either ??? you can hear it for miles. Do you use the 5 ?
Begovich is now one of the top EPL goalkeepers. How do you imagine him "challenge Szczesny"?? Arsene: "Yeah, Asmir, we know, you are the top keeper, probably the best in the league this season, and ManU show some interest along with other big clubs and all that crap. So you may have a great career ahead of you. But we can offer you more than that - how about making Wojcech's plateau much higher? Sounds good? You know, we have this young Polish guy who actually has achieved nothing so far, apart from that epic cock-up at the last EUROs but he is our long term No 1 keeper. He is our future. The thing is - the boy needs some challenge, and you will have a chance to challenge him. How about that, huh? "
You'd be better off going for someone like Julio Cesar, in my opinion, especially if QPR go down. He's still an excellent keeper, but he's old enough to give Szczesny hope that he can dislodge him or won't have long to wait, at least. The younger man would probably learn quite a bit from such an experienced head, too.
Funny how times change, we finally get a top quality keeper who is still very young and we're debating about another keeper challenging his position. It's great being in a good position like this now. 5 years back, we would bite anyones hand off to get someone like young Chesney in. I genuinely believe that some of the mistakes that occur with him are sometimes down to the lack of defensive organisation at the back. If you have a nervous defense, it sometimes filters back to the keeper.
That's true, but one thing that Chesney has is bags of confidence. Arsenal have gone through a roles reversal. We used to have the best, most organised defence of any top team, but wasn't as attacking. Now we are one of the most attacking teams yet have a defense that is the worst organised of any top team.
I've still got high hopes for Mannone to be honest and whilst that might not be a very popular opinion, he's actually given a pretty good account of himself both in the championship with Hull and then when he stepped up to be our number one.
There was a declaration that residents of University city signed, right after the public outcry about jets flying low level over residential areas. But far from calling for tighter controls over airspace, it said that residents recognised that it was a one in a million chance and that it was very unlikely to happen again. Some speculated that the Marines had put pressure on the residents to say it. As you'll know San Diego has a big military presence and many families are employed either directly or indirectly by the Marines at Pendleton and Miramar.
I agree, it may not have been for long but the defence looked solid for awhile with him behind them. Begovic would be a significant improvement on both 'keepers though.
I don't think Begovic is any better than Szczesny and I think the later will go on to become one of the world's best. I wouldn't say no to having him in our squad though. I like Mannone, but I don't think he's really being given the opportunity to offer a challenge to Szczesny.
Being a 'Senior Member' you should realize in this business of football, as with any other, nothing is black and white. No one in their right mind, especially Arsene, would outright say that's why he was signed. He would simply say 'you're a quality keeper who has to prove your place and fight for your spot like anyone else on the squad'. You must realize this. No team would ever tell someone they are there to improve someone else and expect them to play at a top level. C'mon mate don't act like I'VE lost my marbles when it's you not thinking clearly.
