Although that may well be the case (I doubt it, as NC does not seem to consider relegation an option, right or wrong), I can't think of a situation where key promotion players have gone out on loan & then returned once the team is relegated a season later. Just seems far too unlikely, & difficult to arrange. How would you feel as that player, not good would be my guess.
Sharp would not want to play for us next year in the championship, think about it from his point of view, us as a team dont think he is prem quality, so why would he battle for promotion with us when he knows we will throw him away if we go up. Sharp wants to play in the premiership he wont get that with us, regardless
I think loaning Hammond out was a much bigger mistake. We had no CDM cover and Cork was out injured. Cost us several points at the start of the season. Davis and JWP aren't defensive midfielders. Davis has been better recently as he's had Cork and Schneiderlin behind him when he's played. He's been in more attacking roles. He was dreadful at times trying to play CDM but going wondering all over the place. At least we got Rodriguez and Mayuka in to try and replace Sharp. Obviously they might have both wanted to go and not accepted being a back up. If that was the case we still should have got a replacement for Hammond..we didn't even get back up for Cork and Schneiderlin in January.
I wouldn't say that he's good enough to start games because he hasn't got great hold up play, but he'd be a good option to come off of the bench and to nick a goal. Our striking options are Lambert, Rodriguez who is normally deployed on the wing, Mayuka who looks better on the wing and has only just returned from the ACON, Lee who is always injured and won't get a run of games to find his form of last season and Guly who's preferred on the wing and I don't think is attack minded enough to play up front on his own. Even with a fully fit side I think Sharp would definitely get on the bench.
he would need a massive preseason to fit into our way of playing under pochettino. Rickie doesn't do a lot of closing down but he will win headers and hold the ball up, something that Sharp was very poor at. We do lack goals but I would rather try Mayuka who offers us electric pace through the channels. Sharp would finish a few chances coming off the bench, perhaps like le fondre but I think it's better for both parties if he is starting every game in the championship. I would be very pleased if we got 2.5 mil for him.
I must admit, I began to think that the fictional military character Sharpe had just come back from the past.
Sharp is a 442 striker and not a particularly good footballer - excellent instinct and finishing but I can't say he has a lot more than that, very slow and poor interplay and touch. The only way I can see him fitting in this team is if we were chasing and we needed to bring on a finisher when we were looking for an equaliser which may have been useful in games like Tottenham, but Mayuka seems to have that role and perhaps has more impact off the bench with his pace.
