Does anyone else have to travel far to get into work every day or, even worse, do any of you have a job that means you're in a hotel at least one day a week?

As described in "the biggest ****hole" thread, I have to go to a few different cities to work for no good reason other than the other people who do my job think meeting folk face to face is somehow essential.

    Well, that's the official reason.

It seems that some folk positively get off on it. Whenever I have to go to another office, it's because some prick arranged a meeting or training thing and they want to get out the house for the night. You're then forced to mix with people you spend your day with against your will in an office with the same ****ing colour scene but in a different postcode and then go drinking with the boring bastards in some ****ty chain or hotel pub you normally wouldn't dream of entering.

The wee travel case with the wheels, the frequent flyer cards and the like.

    Does my jubblies right in.

    ****s <ok>

My mate stays on Scottish islands for his work 3 days of every week and he doesn't seem to mind.

Does it do your tits in or do you quite like the relative peace?

It was a pain in the arse when I was doing a different town/city every other week but now based in one place it's ok. I'm usually away on my own so don't have to suffer the company of some work college and all the **** that entails. If one of the ****s in this office Where to eat, what/where to drink etc I just do as I please in my own time. There's always a few ****s in the hotel bar to have the craick with and the beauty of that is they're usually similar minded, so we can ignore each other when we can't be ****ed to chat. :D

Maybe I'm just particularly grumpy today but it's been every ****ing week for me so far this year and I feel I'm participating an a faux-lifestyle that I want nothing to do with.

My mate gets to wake up on Skye in a wee B&B with an old lady cooking him a breakfast. I get up in some chain hotel that thinks it's a spa cos it has a swimming pool and am surrounded by spunkstains.

As a writer, I am lucky enough to work from home for three weeks out of each month. The remaining week I spend travelling for research purposes, visiting historical societies, museums, charnel houses, record departments etc.

When I work from home, I get up at 10am and spend two hours making notes, reading and writing blogs and articles. My actual fiction-writing periods are from 1pm to 4pm and 8pm to 1am. With this pattern I am able to spend decent time with the wife and kids, except for the fourth week where I travel alone. The solitary hours in the hotels are spent peacefully editing my work.

I could earn a greater living if I was willing to spend more time on the road - but I am bit lazy. I used to work for local government, you see.

In my last job I was away almost every week without fail - usually in brussels. The novelty wears thin very, very qucikly but on the plus side I usually went over on my own or made sure I only travelled out with people I liked.

It also allows him to indulge in his cross-dressing every fourth week.

Takes me 30 minutes to walk to work (it would take the same in the car, underground would be quicker but **** that), it's great walking to work can grab a roll on the way and a cup of coffee, no ****ing arseholes on trains or buses.

I often have to wear my waterproofs being Glasgow but nipping into the pub half way home when its pissing down make that part tolerable.
