...are not in the squad to face Juve. Good Miku had a bit of a baptism of fire against Benfica - wouldn't do these players any good at all if that was amongst their first games.
They might play against ICT, I reckon. The likes of Hooper and Forster will definitely be nowhere near that game.
I heard that Gershon was injured (how?) and they felt it was too soon for Rogic to play first team games.
I think the two games (ICT and RC) should be fringe players only ... Wouldn't mind seeing Miku given another chance as well...
It's funny how we didn't sell Hooper nor strengthen for this game Lennon must be confident with what he has
I think Gershon is basicly cover encase the worst happens and we need cover and Rogic is here to settle in over the next 6 months and then push for Browns place next season.
With the amount of funds available, I doubt Celtic could have got anyone in that was any better than the current 1st team squad. With Gershon, Celtic now have adequate cover in all departments ... The next signings have to be either 1) for the future 2) better than those playing
I agree to some extent - there will always be an element of bringing players in to bolster the squad rather than just walk into the team, though.
I think Celtic have enough squad players and the squad can be boosted with players being promoted from the next gen/reserve squads etc. If Celtic sell, as an example, Hooper, the player has to be - no less than - a direct replacement (ideally better). However, if Celtic gave Hooper a new contract, he agreed to for long term, then any new Striker needs to be better...
If we sell Hooper, we can't afford a better player. I think the systemic idea we have now would be: Promote current squad player (Watt) Recruit another young squad player That player moves up once Watt moves on. Lennon was slagged for having too big a squad for a while (remember old BBC606 days) but it's proven fruitful that there's competition for every single position. For us to buy a straight improvement on Gary Hooper would be astronomical money unless we unearth him from some unglamorous division somewhere (which is do-able, I suppose).
It would have been very difficult to bring anyone in in January who would have Been likely to start against Juventus. Most people with European experience Would probably be European tied. Unless they were really super players I think I would have more confidence in existing players who would fit into the team with everybody knowing their strengths etc. Our best hope is our team spirit and never say die attitude rather than individual ability is our best hope of progress.
Rogic scored after 9 mins for the under 20s tonight. Gershin played also and stokes got a run out. He also scored.
Looking forward to seeing what Gershon is like, he looks a bit "all action" from the clips i've seen of him but then so did Hooiveld. Talked a good game but seldom walked the walk.
