Ha! I am neither, Gambol. No disrespect to the two fine ladies you mention, but many so-called historical-fiction writers create a bland story that can fit any genre, and then flesh it out to fill a particular gap in the market. No doubt many 'churners' will be using today's news as the basis for their next offering.
Personally, I fulfil a role in the niche market. My last work was based on the Great Mortality and required the reading of over twelve thousand manorial rolls and other assorted documents and dusty parchments. It was a labour of love, though.

Toiler, you have no need to apologise. I was the one to throw the toys from the pram. But as I attend many schools all over the country, I despair at the lack of history lessons and history teachers. However, that is a debate for another day.

But you are a burd, right? It's wimmin that write bodice rippers.

Except that bloke that writes the ones about the lawyer with a hump. Those are good, but unfortunately my rubbish memory lets me down yet once more and I can't remember for the moment the name of the author or the character.

We must at least ponder that Ponder is a burd. And, we have a published author on GC.

I'm imagining an intelligent sultry kind of woman. She's hot but her intelligence prevents her from realising her inherent ****abillity.

    That's whit am goin with.

    Right enough old chap <ok>

If it's a bird I'm happy, we certainly need some around this place however, the thought that she could be an intelligent bird terrifies me <yikes>

Can I ask which period most interests you, which one do you most commonly write about?

Just out of personal interest you know, I find English history fascinating, especially the Civil War, 100 years war and the Wars of the Roses.

A history buff, eh? Great stuff.

I love all history, Dev, but my specialist period is the Middle-Ages. My books tend to look at two entirely different cultures set during the same period. For instance, one of my books centres around the Harefoot/Harthacnut saga, with a framing tale of 11th century Kiev. Two contrasting settings, but so woven together by politics and nobility.

I may have given myself away...
