I think the Barnet offers went down very well. The quid for a kid offer and happy hours before and after the game in the bars along with the meal deals. The stadium was packed with quite a lot of people left outside unable to get in! The atmosphere was the best its been for years and not a lot of negativity about when an error was made. The fans have had to put up with a lot of crap for the last 3 seasons and deserve more. The manager and players saying the fans really helped them keep pushing forward to get the win. So come on Mr Higgs, these offers were a success and really benefitted the team to win the game, so keep the offers coming so we can make the Mem into a fortress.
If they get something like 4K extra punters thro' the gate, then serving a few cost price pints and pies makes for a pretty good marketing strategy.
We do similar offers throughout the season as kid for a quid and so forth. But when the board done those special offers and more regurly at the end of last season the gate was force. I don't know why a good business man don't think right give season ticket holders a quarter to a third off that way more will buy season tickets coud add a thousand or more onto the gates plus reduce the admission for pay on the day to a quarter of the price shoud then add more people on seats. Even a small reduction might work but they ought to at least think about it. If you get 12k at full price but get 15k to 16k at lower prices it should balance out on profits. The players would prefer to play to a fuller house than empty plastic seats. Both clubs should look to get proper fans back into the grounds not just those who can afford it, the rest of the country are in recession but not football. Well done on getting a big crowd it makes sense to look at these things but over a season not just because they need to get fans in at the critical times. If bigger crowds were backing from the off maybe neither clubs would have critical times at the end of the seaso.
all good points surely those higher up in the board rool will see it was a success and that the manager and players have stated the fans got them through the game to win it, 19 points will be enough from last 18 games, crucial we stay up and these offers will allow like you said ROD those who normally go as can afford it and those who dont normally go as cant afford it all get behind the team when the team needs it most.
I think the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Last year at the critical end of the season, City reduced the admission price and the increased gates must have gone a long way to compensate. Also the atmosphere clearly encouraged the players to put in that little bit extra which saved the club from relegation. However I do feel that if the club does make reductions in entrance fees, then they must somehow compensate the loyal supporters who have paid for season tickets. Best done by reducing the cost of the next season's ticket by a similar amount to returning clients.
Good point about ST holders Sapphire....they/we miss out when all the offers come along. There's no doubt that the offers helped boost the crowd on Friday, but just as important were: *weekend footballers were able to attend *we'd had two great away wins *John Ward was back *even if you're not a weekend footballer it's easier for some to be 'let out' on a Friday evening than a Saturday Afternoon.
The special offers helped to create what was the best atmosphere I've experienced down the mem for a long time. If Barnet had brought a larger following we would have had more than 10k in the ground. Even if the sums don't quite work out profit-wise - the atmosphere generated by the larger gates must work to the club's advantage. Who thinks we would have scored in the 93rd minute if the game had been played in front of 5k with ****le or McGhee in charge?
quite a few i know that dont go often has said they will go to the next home game and thats without the offers. club would make up money that way from fans that they dont normally gain from.
I wish we had more Friday night games. Work>>>>>>Home>>>>>Pub>>>>Game>>>>Win >>>>Pub Perfect way to start the weekend. Only problem is I didn't get back from ****ing Yorkshire in time
I was all set to leave at 1pm but got caught up in some bullshit cost cutting conference the irony was it was video linked to our Bristol office ffs Didn't get back home untill past 8pm
