Eurovision is wonderful. Do you know anywhere you can go to listen to bad tunes and see groups of eastern countries voting for their neighbours and Russia, and see if Írland give no votes to England AGAIN? <laugh>

It is a different excuse to have a party.

    Morning All from the Med,

Another cloudless day here and the wind that was around yesterday has ceased. According to the paper we were getting the tail end of the mistral, but that has slowed down and the forecast is for warm and sunny weather for the rest of the week.

There seems to be a degree of panic setting in for the people in the holiday business as the tourists have not arrived and the bookings for later are very poor. Normally we find that at this time of year there are plenty of people from northern Europe looking for some good weather, but with the children still in school it is not the young families on the beaches, more likely to be people like us, middle-aged.:emoticon-0114-dull:

I popped into a bar Saturday afternoon when the Cup final was drawing to a close and there was one Englishman watching the TV. This is not normal. The general feeling is that there is a shortage of money in many countries and if the tourists do arrive it will be last minute decisions and hopefully there will be some bargains to be had.

However I will continue to sit out of the terrace with a coffee, bit early yet for a glass, the local newspaper and watch the world go by. A stroll along the beach later, it is only 100 yards away, then some lunch. I hope that the rest of you are enjoying yourselves as well.

Yeah, thanks for that OFH. You know the Nest rules, you are now funding the View attachment 2895 in The Nest for the rest of the day :p

A good friend of mine went on a quick cheap & cheerful break to Spain with his young kids just before Easter, he said it was fairly busy with Brits, but spending was right down. Bars and restaraunts are fighting for trade - places offering a San Miguel for €1!
Funny though, Mrs W_Y are struggling to find a summer holiday - unless we want to spend over £3K...:emoticon-0104-surpr

Cheers OFH, I will take my View attachment 2895 a bit later....

    Morning all

Bright and breezy here. Recovering from weekend with visitors. Keeping a one-year-old amused is great fun but it's good to be able to hand them back to their parents after an hour or two.

Norway - Issue with Cuba in the summer is the risk of hurricanes or very heavy rain showers in the afternoons and it will still cost quite a bit. We usually try to get away at Easter when the hurricane and monsoon seasons are low risk, but with Mrs W_Y having to finish her 1st year Uni work, we have delayed until end of July. So a bit more restricted and we try to find a place with no kids clubs etc. and they are so limited close to home, that you have to look for long haul and then the weather restrictions kick in. Bali looks good, but they want nearly £4K to go to a hotel we want to a couple of years ago...will be looking a bit harder when Mrs W_Y finishes her exam next week.

How can I like Eurovision? I think that the competition shows everything that is wrong with popular music. That singers or groups which normaly exist only for the competition with a specially writen song for only a few days is wrong. If Iron Maiden for the UK or Scorpions for Germany entered they would not win because of the eastern Europeans voting for their friends.
