Is the referee able, in that situation, to do what they do in American Football or rugby: award penalty yardage? Or upgrade to a penalty if need be. If there was the risk of a free kick from just outside the box becoming a penalty, encroachment would stop overnight.

Speaking of America's excuse to eat billions of chicken wings, tortilla chips and pizzas, will anyone else be watching the Super Bowl tonight?

I believe refs are allowed to do that NNW, but like other new "initiatives" brought in, it is largely forgotten. Same as trying to gain territory by walking down the line on a throw in.
I won't be watching the Super Bowl as I don't have a great interest - daughter is going to a Super Bowl after work tonight and baked a huge batch of Brownies to take along.

I've managed to work out that 4 are Chalobah (England U-21s at home tomorrow night, not too bad), Pudil and Vydra (Czech Republic at Turkey), Ekstrand (Sweden at home to Argentina) but who are the others?

Morning all. Very mild but a bit of drizzle in the air. Might get out and about the estate to do a few bits and pieces. ;)

It seems that Ekstrand has withdrawn from the Swedish game with a swollen knee.

As well as Vydra, Pudil, Ekstrand and Chalobah

Nos for Jamaica

Sean Murray and Connor Smith for the RoI Under-21s

Tommie Hoban RoI U19s

Cristian Battocchio Italy Under-20s

Hopefully most of these will be tomorrow night, and not too far. I doubt Nos will play Friday, and hopefully Vydra, Pudil and Ekstrand will only be bit-part players, if they do play!

Afternoon all, good to be back at work but still recovering after small infection that managed to get to my kidney :emoticon-0107-sweat. Pains and sickness have gone but feel knackered today. Was very pleased with Saturdays result and although not a great game according to the reports it is another 3 points. The Palace game should good and if we can win it will put us into the dizzying heights of second and also put pressure on the teams around us. I can't remember the last time I felt so content being a hornet, no relegation/administration/selling key players to balance books to worry about!!!

Sorry Leo, bit late but congratulations. Have you been and visited yet for that first cuddle?

Spotted these on twitter this morning but can't find anything more in depth - not even on the Wobby site.

Watford Observer ‏@Observer_Owl
Contrary to reports elsewhere, #WatfordFC will not be able to sign any of their loanees in the coming weeks. Will have to wait until summer

Watford Observer ‏@Observer_Owl
I guess Udinese could release the loanees so #WatfordFC can sign them but I'd be amazed if they did. Would cause controversy and criticism

Watford Observer ‏@Observer_Owl
As for agreeing deals for the loanees privately, yes they could but #WatfordFC wouldn't be able to announce them as they'd be breaking rules

Anyone know any more about this?

As far as I know BB, if Udi made any of the players free agents by cancelling their contracts, then Watford could sign them as free agents. This might not go down too well with some as it could be seen as another case of bending the rules to suit Watford.

As far as I know again, some clubs have signed players on a 'pre-contract' basis, agreeing everything, bit not making it official until a transfer window is open.

I was wondering more about the first tweet - I hadn't heard or seen anything about us not signing any of the loanees at all until summer. Has the FA/FL made some ruling about this - the last I heard this morning was that GZ thought the signing of Vydra was imminent.

I'd suggest we can agree terms now, with Udinese and the player, but his permanent registration does not transfer to Watford until the window reopens. He'd still be a loan player until then.

Last season, arsenal signed Podolski before the season ended, but did not move until the end of the season... It just so happens Vydra et al are already with us
