You really are being very silly. Why would a Sponsor want to lose the cache of the Anfield name? The corporate sponsors could add their name to it very very easily, Give up lad you're just getting desperate!
Why would a sponsor spend tens of millions for the stadium to still be called Anfield? What would they have achieved from their investment? You're just talking ****e now! How many existing stadiums have had a successful naming rights deal compared to new stadiums? Why haven't Chelsea been able to secure a naming rights deal but Arsenal have? Simple questions even for you Angry Dave!
Ok dickhead you are just being thick! If any sponsor associated their name with Anfield then it would be called by every element of the media as the X Anfiield Stadium. As for Chelssea, as far as I know they are not chasing sponsors as they have yet to fix upon exactly where to build a NEW stadium. I'm not angry, I'm actually sad that others have to winess your astonishing ignorance.
Dave, I'm happy to discuss with and educate you on this matter but if you're going to revert to type then there's really no point. You do this regularly, get into a debate with someone, demonstrate that you have no real knowledge or understanding of the issue and then just say that anyone who disagrees with you is thick, ignorant, uneducated etc. It's pathetic really. Chelsea have been chasing a stadium sponsor since 2009. In late 2011 they said they were close to securing a deal for Stamford Bridge. They never announced who the deal was with but it was Samsung who were already sponsoring the shirts. Samsung pulled out of the deal as they realised that they would be spending tens of millions of pounds on a marketing campaign that would have limited impact as Stamford Bridge would always be known as Stamford Bridge as you can't erase decades of history just by spending a few pounds. As for Anfield, McDonalds might insist that the stadium is renamed the McDonals Anfield Arena but it would take at least a generation for the fans to refer to is as anything other than Anfield. Your savvy Chief Marketing Officer at McDonalds on his fat salary would no doubt pick up on that possibility which is why there have been few if any successful naming rights deals for existing stadiums. If you know different please list examples and back up your claims of my astonishing ignorance as so far all you've demonstrated is that you don't really know what you're talking about but what else is new?!
Go away little boy. You spout rubbish that you can't support with any reference and then pathetically try to insult people. You really are a juvenile fool. Goodnight.
Examples of successful naming rights deals for existing stadiums Dave. Very simple task I've set you. Jump to it. By the way, love the reference to me insulting you. Fantastically ironic!
Finally! And it was a whole 8 years old as City's stadium when they sold the naming rights. The City fans had no real allegiance to the City of Manchester Stadium name as it wasn't the club's stadium in the first place, the club didn't actually name it and, as far as I'm aware, they still don't own it, it's leased from the council. In fact, most City fans referred to it as Eastlands, which is actually the site not the name of the stadium, while others call it the Council House... It's not Maine Road.
You asked for an example, I gave you one. I actually agree with what you say. The value a company would see however, is the media are obliged to call a stadium by the 'official' name, so for say a relatively unknown airline, to have their name / brand so openly and frequently talked and written about could be a good deal. Doesn't mean home supporters would have any interest in calling it that (nor some away support) but its about profile.
How did we get onto naming rights anyway? Spurs have a team full of boring but decent players. They are boring to watch but can hold onto a lead better than us. We are a bit more exciting with a few young raw players in the team. We make more mistakes and shoot ourselves in the foot a lot.
the sportsdirect.com @ St James' Park Stadium? Wonga, there's a savvy sponsor. It's crass that being the business that they are they are able to be a sponsor in the first place but by becoming the club sponsor and reinstating the SJP name they will have generated far more positive publicity in Newcastle than they would have done by insisting that Wonga be in the stadium name in whatever capacity.
Dave made some unsubstantiated comment about Spurs having to pay for the new stadium for a long time and I said they had a couple of income streams which would help pay for it ie naming rights and property development. Plus Joe Lewis could fund it from his small change if need be. Which he can. But what do I know, I'm biased towards Spurs apparently?!
Also ask the question, how long do you think it will be before Old Trafford is called 'The Armitage Shanks Arena'? They have plastered a logo on nearly every inch of their club so its surely only a matter of time.
^This^ We are still slightly behind Spurs in terms of Consistancy of earning results. However, I believe we have gained on them this season. I think we have more about us and more potential for the future. Most importantly though our current star players want to stay with the team and see what we can do. Where as Spurs star player wants to head elsewhere to earn silverware. Says alot about the mentality of the clubs as far as im concerned. Spurs will finish above us this season, but wouldnt surprised if we over took them next season.
As you clearly don't have the slightest understanding of marketing or marketing strategy then you'll just have to accept my word for it that the Marketing Director of any sponsoring company has very little interest in what the fans may call the place. He/She is far more interested in how the name is used in the media and the opportunity for that company to promote itself via association because, believe it or not that's what they are actually paying for! You were already given an example - even though you have to argue with that merely because it does not fit your ill-informed view so there is no point in even trying to add to your knowledge as I really doubt your ability to comprehend.
