As Jimmy Squarefoot has already said, the Under 18's have got off to a good start in the Al Kass tournament. Perfect start. A two goal victory and a clean sheet. They are in action again tomorrow when they play Esperance. A victory tomorrow would put us in a very good position to qualify for the quarter-finals!
And in the Under 21 game, Liverpool are now 3-2 up! After going 2-1 down, goals from Marc Pelosi & Samed Yesil have put us 3-2 up. Not sure how long is left though?
And we have secured a 3-2 victory! After going 1-0 up through Krisztian Adorjan, Wolves fought back. A Conor Coady own goal drew Wolves level before Sam Winnall scored the follow-up after his penalty was saved. Marc Pelosi then got Liverpool back on level terms in the 76th minute before a 88th minute winner for Samed Yesil secured another victory for the Under 21's. Sounds like it was a good game and the highlights should be worth a watch!
how did Texeira get on i haven't seen him play for us since we signed him, does he show the promise we are hoping still?
Right, here's an update on the Under 18's and their participation in the Al Kass tournament over in Qatar. As I have already mentioned (See post #561) Liverpool won their opening game against Aspire Qatar 2-0 after goals from Jerome Sinclair & Daniel Trickett-Smith. We then played Esperance in the other group game. That game finished 0-0 but it meant that we qualified from the group and progressed into the quarter-finals. - We were drawn against Inter Milan but it didn't go to plan for the Reds and a 65th minute goal from Francesco Bigotto meant we were eliminated. However, we are still involved in the play-off system to decide our overall finishing position within the tournament. This play-off system drew us against Real Madrid and as I type, we are leading 1-0. The goal came from Daniel Trickett-Smith. The game is currently being played (57 minutes in) and here is a link: http://shoof.alkass.net/shoof/live/live_2.php
And here are some highlights of the Inter game if you're interested:
Now 1-1. Real Madrid get the ball to the left-hand side and their winger skips past our defender (Not too sure how at the moment) and plays a ball across the face of the goal where the Madrid striker gets the ball ahead of us and it's a easy tap in. Game is very much on now.
2-1 down. No idea what the goal was like as I was looking for the team news for the City/Liverpool game but we've now only got 4 minutes plus injury time to save the game.
We couldn't get the goal we needed and the Under 18's fell to a 2-1 defeat. I'll try to get a match report and some highlights up later today or tomorrow. It means we have one more game left to play. It will be on Tuesday and is the 7th/8th place play-off. We will play one of Aspire International or Aspire Qatar who play later today.
Dani Pacheco made his debut today for SD Huesca. I dont speak Spanish but from what ive read from spanish news pages. He came on beginning of the second half and scored a corker in the first minute of being on. Made up for the lad even if its not at the highest level.
Here is a match report for the Liverpool Under 18's and their 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid. And a little something I didn't notice whilst watching the second half. The coach of the Real Madrid side today was a certain Spanish striker whose name we'll remember... Fernando Morientes!
And the results of today's game means that the Under 18's will face Aspire Qatar in the battle for 7th and 8th place in the Al Kass tournament. That game will be played on Tuesday.
The Under 21's unbeaten run has gone! Lost 1-0 to Spurs earlier today. Early goal from Spurs striker Jonathan Obika was enough for Tottenham.
Both the Under 21's & the Under 18's were in action this weekend. Here's what happened: - First of all, the Under 21's were at West Brom looking for a reaction after their defeat to Spurs. Good result and response from the Under 21's after losing their unbeaten run to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday. However, the injury to Marc Pelosi, who has done well this season, overshadows the victory somewhat. Rumours that it is a broken leg after a two-footed challenge (Which the West Brom player was sent off for) but nothing official yet. Sounds very serious though. - And onto the Under 18's who were also in the Midlands this weekend as they took on Wolves. Not too much information on this game (As usual...) and I can't find anything on the Wolves website either. Disappointing result though but we have the chance to respond next Saturday as we host Sunderland Under 18's.
If the Pelosi injury is as serious as it currently sounds, it certainly adds to the growing injury list in the Under 21/Under 18 squad. Flanagan is still out with a knee injury (Meant to be back soon though) Brad Smith got injured a few weeks ago if I recall correctly and not forgetting Yesil's ACL knee injury. Does leave us with some selection dilemmas for the NextGen game with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday.
The Under 18's were in action this afternoon as they took on Sunderland Under 18's. Here is the match report on a good day for our U18's: Nice to get a good match report from the club website. A good result for the Under 18's and the perfect reaction after the 1-0 loss at Wolverhampton Wanderers last Saturday. It also sets us up nicely for the F.A Youth Cup game at Anfield on Thursday!
