I agree with a lot of what you are saying apart from we want instant success ??
All most all of us want us to be a well established premier league club and to be able to have the right size squad to be able to cope in the premier league and not struggle to stay up and maybe go on a cup run.

Fans get frustrated when we get left high and dry like we did in the summer when we knew we had etc European games to attend with.

If we keep the nucleus of the team in the summer and add a striker then wow we can have a good season
Not saying we will win anything but we will not need to worry bout staying up.

But instant success, well I have been waiting 32 years so the word instant is of the mark lol

    Agree!

Let's get this season under our belts to get some of the new guys settled in. i am now hoping we are strong enough to avoid the drop (but making no assumptions, as we've been there before).

IF we stay up, then to compete with the top 7 or 8 we definitely need at least one good striker, another CB (assuming Colo will be off) and maybe one more winger / wide midfielder to increase the competition. That's assuming we don't sell anyone vital.

It would time to offload a couple if the squad players who do not look like stepping up, while others need to go out on loan to the Championship to gain much needed experience.

The instant success refers not to you specifically but fans who are all over the directors for not buying these guys in the summer at an inflated cost. Unfortunately someone has to be boring and frugal with our funds. Saving 10m plus in a 6 month period is not what fans are concerned about of course but I can see the logic. If that means we can get another striker in the summer, surely the club is better off long term? That represents more chance of the established PL status we all want. Its not as exciting as the KK or Robson period, but its not russian roulette with the clubs long term health either.
