Having read the comments on the other threads about Mackie's performance today, I can only conclude that I must be living in a parallel Universe. Mackie was, in my opinion, the clear man of the match. Townsend ran him close alright but Mackie was the man for me. Despite playing out of position, he was involved in all of our attacking play, won us countless free-kicks (that were squandered by someone else), won us a penalty (that was squandered by someone else) and dispossessed their players time and time again. Quite simply, he was superb. We all know he's not a lone CF. In fact, he's not a CF at all. But he is indispensable to our team. I seriously wonder about some guys on here. Q.P.R, your OP on that other thread is the most ridiculous nonsense I've seen posted on this forum in a long time. SB, I can't understand how you thought he was poor today. Seriously, I though you were joking when I seen your comment on that other thread. Put it this way. If Mackie had of been allowed take the penalty that he'd won, we'd be celebrating 3 points right now.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be at LR today, but from what I've read on the match reports, Mackie was as active as ever. Do we ever expect and get anything less from Jamie? It's such a shame he can't find his goal scoring touch from before his injury, I'm sure it will give him the missing factor that his positivity & energy deserves. When Remy returns, I hope Mackie gets regular sub appearances.
Don't have another huff and storm off now. They're called opinions. Thought you'd be used to it by now.
94% correct Mackie worked very hard today but not MOM it was Townsend all day for me We didn't press enough and allowed Norwich to pop it around making them look good Welcome back chops x
Imo Mackie was probably midway between the two OP's we are talking about. Did a decent job, hardworking and energetic but lacking in that bit of quality and seemed a bit off the pace at times. But he definitely won the ball back countless times and won the penalty. Didnt so such a bad job, but lacked decent support.
Was about to say the same, the truth lies somewhere inbetween the two OP's. Well said Judo. Welcome back Swords, the balance in the force is restored
He definitely won the ball back more than he rightly should and that was down to sheer determination. Disappointed with just a draw today but saw plenty of positives. We had a lot of possession in their half. We got bodies forward. We've unearthed another very direct player in Townsend. Couple this with Taarabt and Remy and that's a few outlets. The new players seemed to fit in pretty well as opposed to our 10 game settling in period. Having defended so resolutely over the last few games, switching ourselves to being the dominating force in matches was never going to be easy but we made a decent job of it - something to build on. We fans have a habit of putting too much meaning on single results. Yes today was important but losing wouldn't have sent us down and a win wouldn't have kept us up. It's a war, my friends, and individual battles aren't all key even if they add pressure to later ones. As long as victory is possible and we're in there fighting then we have a chance. Welcome back Swords BTW.
Head and shoulders is a bit far. As we all know he tries works etc etc, his heart is in it blah blah, but technically he's just not good enough. So many attacking moves break down due to his erratic control or dribbling and his head down and charge thing. He closes down and gets us the odd attack from it, but so many times the pass or the cross after is terrible.
Very good point there Matthew. Makes a mockery of Hughes' "we need time to gel" tripe. Bob, best you stay silent
He works hard, but he is not prem quality. We need to be taking risks now with the hoillets, etc. Cisse should have never been released if we only had one other option. If we play the rest of our games with a lone striker and Mackie/Hill and Derry,we will not survive in this league. Time to take some risks
