Exactly......Mackie is no striker and IMO Abdul would have done a better job on his own up front, he has the ability to keep the ball, Remy's injury is a big blow so let's hope he recovers quickly but not too quickly eh!. I like Mackie but I also recognize his limits, he does his best every game and yes sometimes his best isn't good enough but it is a pity that others were not as enthusiastic as Jamie pre-Christmas.

To be fair, now I've calmed down a bit, I think Mackie did ok today and he did win the penalty. I think we often let our opinions of certain players get in the way of our appraisal of them. I did this today, as I really don't rate him that highly. He certainly isn't the answer up front on his own.

He worked hard, but has no quality. Those CBs are rubbish, Adel should have been much further up the pitch to scare the **** out of them.

He wouldn't scare the petals off a daisy that lad. The bloke is the most overrated player ever to wear the shirt.

    Very harsh.

It's not his fault he was played alone upfront, which is just not his position. Without Cisse, Harry probably thought we didn't have many options. However, the last time I saw Bothroyd play, a week or so back, he looked better than I remembered, working hard and even winning headers. Playing like that, he might have made the same difference that Zamora made when he came on. The biggest problem was us lining up 4-4-1-1: a bit defensive at home to Norwich. My favourite 4-2-3-1 would have given Jamie (or Bothroyd) more support.

No-one could have put in more effort than Jamie. I just wish he had the silky skills and goal-scoring touch to go with the lung-busting running.

Mackie is crap up front on his own but did ok when zamora came on and he won the penalty. He created our best chance today but should never be a lone man up front.

If you don't rate Mackie then you are clueless. If you don't rate Taarabt then you are wasting good oxygen.

Well put. Exactly as I see it Scotty.

Personally not one for idolising players. For me it's only ever about supporting Rangers as a club and where a player contributes to our wellbeing, that'll do for me.

For his few limitations, Jamie Mackie gives heart, soul and full commitment to whatever role he's given. The OP might not see it but not many defenders fancy having to mark Mackie. He almost invariably makes his presence felt in his constant battling performances, harrying (no pun intended) them all game long.

Whilst he CAN score at times, he's not the most natural goal scorer. Solid R. If we'd had a few more Mackies this season, we wouldn't have lost so many games imho.

Sorry OP, your's is a jaundiced view on this one.

Me and my friends have been saying this ever since we got promoted, I highlighted Jamie as one of the first players to be replaced once we came up, but as it stands, he's playing every week. It really is a shame as well, always gives 100% and wears the shirt with pride, you seriously can't fault him. Excellent attitude. However I generally believe some of the semi-pros I know can, at times, control/run with the ball better than him.

It's all well and good saying " we could do with 11 Jamie mackies out there" in regards to effort and attitude, but the fact is if we had 11 Jamie mackies out there with his skill and technical ability (which you need at this level by the way) we would already be relegated.

Can't argue with that LC. Great attitude and so on... but not really a prem player. Arry was trying to get rid in the window so many are saying. I will always be greatful for his effort in the promotion year and i won't knock him. If we go down we may need him again???

Yeah that's a very good point mate, for me it wouldn't have made any sense trying to get rid of him this window, especially given the current position we are in. Will definitely do a job for us in the championship, IF we go down of course ;)
