Too many similarities to last week. We go ahead they bring on match-changing subs we don't counter it and bring on the subs when it's too late.
Counter with what subs? The moment they had 2 strikers they overpowered us throughout the park. We had no defensive tactical change to make to try and deal with it beyond giving them more room by bringing on a 2nd striker. The squad doesn't fit what we needed, they are more dangerous than us and thats that! If there was a substitutive criticism it would be we maybe could have done with a Danny Hollands to get in and provide some energy and fight, but we don't. Hindsight maybe would've given us some fight, but 4-5-1 suits us, but it doesn't give us flexibility to change and battle. I'm devastated, but not surprised by it. If you look at the 2 11's, they we're always more likely to have the ability to score more goals than we were. Summed up, beaten by a gut wrenchingly better team
One day Powell will realise subs are there for reasons other then reaction, especially when he reacts once it's too late
Wasn't there so can't comment with any authority. Some instinctive comments. Happy to be told they are crap by those who attended: 1. Didn't agree with leaving Stephens out. Wonder if we might have been further ahead at half time had he played? 2. Not jumping on the subs bandwagon (although it is clearly a huge issue) but bringing on Wiggy for his first game in goodness knows how long when we were totally under the cosh seems a bit foolhardy. 3. Looking at the two squad lists, they are better than us. Simples. We move on. More lessons learned the hard way. I'm not slitting my wrists
It looked the strongest bench we've had for a while, Wiggo, Stephens, Kermit and Haynes genuine alternatives, Haynes in particular.
