we don't need to win them all, we just need to win some.
Yeah, we got Ade in the time we've needed NEW STRIKER but he pretty much forced a move out of city. We wouldn't have him either if he hadn't.

The fact 'NEW STRIKER' has been going since the old 606 days is indication enough to me that something is screwy. Every man and his dog sees we need a striker so AVB and his crew must have seen that too. I can't prove it 100% but for me there are only 2 causes - massive penny pinching and poor scouting. Its gotta be one or both of those.

Heck, the fact Lyon are trying to offload players is well known. They have 2 good strikers. Nothing happened

yes, I'm a sucker for deadline day, but holtby is a bad example, and not one I was referring to. There were obvious reasons for that

How about Lloris, Dempsey and Saha? 3 players who have aided in our reputation of being a "deadline day club". The latter two we've ended up with, due to leaving everything till so late and failing!

They were late because deals had fallen through which were taken to the window not by us but by the selling clubs. If we have set our sights on say Moutinho then pursuing that to the last possible time available is not something to criticise is it? We can't just go in like Abramovich and say ok here's 50 million now shut up and give us the player.

Or just priced out the market by clubs with bigger financial clout. Just look at Liverpool spending 35 million on Pony Tail boy. 35 million! <yikes> Does that not tell you how crazy the striker market is. RVP was a complete bargain but then it was Man U that were after him and he wanted to go.

a good comment from twitter & the bbc:

"Now most agents can take a break, apart from Gareth Bale's, now Daniel Levy has revealed Spurs' lack of ambition"

Suarez was within our range imo. £20m is expensive, but also a bargain. There is no such thing as a guaranteed success in the transfer market. But if you don't partake at all then you are guaranteed not to have any successes

What i'm trying to say is that in the transfer market you can win some and you can lose some. But if you don't buy anyone then you win none.

But, as an example, we were clearly in for Damiao with money on the table. Having been after him over the course of several transfer windows we would surely have been aware of any 3rd party ownership issues that might hold the deal up. Why wait until the last minute when we've bid for him in the past a few times.

but that's the question. If we were clearly in for Damiao (or Moutinho in the summer), why leave it till the final day when it was obviously going to be difficult with all this ownership malarkey? you have to question whether this was serious, or just a media stunt to keep the fans happy.

how do you know the selling clubs took us to the end? isn't that just speculation too?

see my last post for thoughts on end of window moutinho/damiao "bids". ^^

Having said all that I agree, and have said, that we should spend the money and get in a top striker. But I am not running the club so it's easy to say these things. I won't then go on to blame Levy because I have to say that he is doing a good job in turning Spurs once more into a top team who are up there and challenging. Let's not forget that.

Could be, but the events seemed to bear out the reports.

if we had purchased a striker or 2 in the last few years and they hadn't worked out and been sold on i would be happier today than i am, even if the end result in both were a half fit defoe and an adebayor in africa. At least we would have had a crack.

It is obvious that we can't sign these B plus players. All the conference business talks in the world will not make it ever possible while we have this regime in charge.
We will never meet their price and pay the wages to tempt them. Time and again we fail . Spurf you are being to kind to Levy, a little Thelonius Monk may bring the
rebel Hep Cat out of you. No more trad for you.
Our whole ethos must change, the bullshit must stop. The club is just not spending any money to compete . None of us are asking for the mad Russian spending.

Apparently we've recalled Kane from Norwich
Good, he could well be needed.
What a farce. The poor lad could have a lot of pressure on him

Edit - to me that also shows we WERE after a striker this window and we failed for some reason or another

Monk always played to his own tune Sidney. <laugh> As I do. <ok>

Indeed. It may well show that. Hopefully if he's given a chance he can fulfil his potential but sadly I don't think he will be the long term centre forward solution for the club.

I would hope that we were Spurm but as I said it a'int easy.

I don't even think its his position. I hope he's not asked to play a role that isn't his best and then thrown on the scrap heap for not being a world beater at it.

for me, the same applies to Townsend. only other winger we've got. but we've loaned him out, meaning our back up options change our style of play completely. bizarre.

We did have Falque as well who can do a proper winger job, but he's also been loaned. It's madness.

I just have a feeling that Holtby is going to turn out to be a far more important transfer than we realise right now.

The very first pass he made was the best pass of the game IMO.

Yeah, I've been under the impression that he's more of a second striker really. But he's better to play there than Dempsey IMO. I think the powers that be at the club would understand that he's a young man who would potentially be asked to play in a position that isn't his best and would interpret his performances relative to that.

EDIT: I'm also very excited about Holtby Spurf. I think we've done the right thing in paying the fee to bring him early and he's going to be a big player for us both now and in the future.
