So, We play QPR on Saturday, live on TV. With all the new signings they are getting in, they are likely to start with most of them. Is this going to be a good thing for us or bad thing. Should we be worried about all these new players, or will they just be the usual "in it for the money, can't be bothered" type players. Must admit, I am slightly worried. Hopefully though we can play like we did last night and Becch's can score a couple!!!
Good time to play them I reckon. Unless you are talking world class talent it is going to take the newbies a while to gel and find their place in the team and I suspect it will take Redknapp a while to find his best team and formation. Huge pressure on them as if we can roll them over we'll be 14 clear of them which means they would need to better us by a point a game for the rest of the season to overhaul us which I just can't see. So them, Villa and who else to go down??
Their fans seem to be split into those who agree with us that it is a massive financial gamble and those who are gung-ho.The latter seem to think that they only have to turn up to get the points now they have all the Big Time Charlies on board. If they fail to win on Saturday I think it will be a huge shock to them.
I think financially they're getting worse than they were last season. Last season they were signing old players on high wages, but for low fees, and (mostly) relatively short contracts. Now, they've got younger players for high fees and even higher wages, on longer contracts. Whilst they might now have some re-sale value, who will take them? Outside Chelsea, Man City and maybe United, no UK clubs can afford to offer anyone £100k a week, so the players who only care about money won't want to move on. With regards the weekend, maybe it'll work in our favour, but we'll see. Hopefully it'll disrupt the new-found determination in their squad.
I think we need to start well and not fade in the 2nd half like we did last night. It would be great if we could get the same start as we did against Swansea and then keep QPR out for a lot longer, so that we're not hanging on at the end!!!!
Lot of pressure on them with all the money if they fail to beat us it will be seen as good money after bad and the high of the spending silly amounts of money will come crashing down
They have a lot more to lose than us here.Currently giving it large over Samba.Usual QPR stuff abouit how he is going to do over Holt. Then Samba tweets them to say he's not very fit but will see what he can do.You couldn't make it up! Apparently it's close season in Russia. Quote off their board "You've either got it or you ain't.If you have you are going to use it" This kind of mentality is what has brought football to where it is today.Quite honestly I wouldn't want to support a club like QPR or Ci£y who just want to do this bling stuff all the time and buy their way to success (Or in QPR's case failure)
I wonder how the players interact with each other at clubs like QPR. Samba is reported to be on 100K a week. How does that go down with Hill and Derry who might not be the greatest but have been the ones to keep the club on the straight and narrow and who 'Arry can turn to. I bet they are on 25K at best. Our structure would seem to be the most suitable for clubs in the bottom half of the Prem.
QPR have done well recently in a run of very difficult matches, taking points off several of the big boys. That'll count for nothing, though, if they can't then get wins in the matches against the rest of the division. So the pressure is on them big time on Saturday. Especially with this new tranche of 'stars'. As someone says earlier, if we can beat them I can't see them catching us. A draw wouldn't be a disaster for us, either. The pressure for us will come in the Fulham game if we don't win this one. Let's hope the Spurs game was the start of a new chapter in this very roller-coaster season.
QPR Samba Deal £12.5m Fee 4.5 year contract at 100k/week = £5.2m x 4.5 = £23.4m Add in Bonuses (appearances, clean sheets, survival, etc) Total Outlay = £36m on one player effectively Norwich's Outlay = £10m for 8 players in Summer and £2m max. for 3 players in January Puts it into perspective really...
I'm thinking we haven't rocked the Norwich boat much in this window. This could work to our advantage against QPR. I would think we'd put out exactly the same team as we did against Spurs then bring Becchio on later on in the game. Had we got Hooper in then there would have been a need to start him and disrupt the starting XI.
Very glass half full - I wonder if you'd be unwilling to rock the boat if Messi had decided that he fancied a season in Norfolk! That said I think you make a good point - there is a lot to be said for having a team rather than 11 players and I know that QPR are desparate but Samba cannot be fully fit as he has not played for weeks in the Russian close season and Jenas has spaghetti legs and is never fully fit. By the time those two start firing it could be too late to make a difference.
We were more than a match for Spurs on Wednesday, for 3/4 of the game. They have players of an equal quality to those brought in by QPR, who are used to playing together. We need to match that performance and if decisions go our way a decent result should take care of itself.
It's going to be a hell of an effort. 13 games to get 20-24 points, and more than a point a game behind us.
A win would be great, but a draw would probably be enough to rule out them catching City (overcoming an 11 point deficit over 13 games is a big ask for the best of teams). Even 7 points is a big ask for the other three teams.
It really is a must win for them.If they are not ahead by the hour the pressure is going to be immense. This is one where we really could do with a slice of luck, like one of their players getting a red.
