Well done Celtic and Neil Lennon for telling Norwich on four occasions to stick their offers for Gary Hooper. Pity time and again, we couldn't do something similar. At least Becchio might get a game now they're not getting their first choice striker
Well in the summer, didn't they say they valued him at 16 million. Which is just ridiculous for someone playing in the Scottish league
The lure of Champions League football is huge. If he moved to Norwich, he would likely never play in Europe ever again let alone the Champions League. Interesting many thought during the summer that Celtic would struggle without Rangers in the spl. Hopefully some day, we'll once again have valuable players and will be able to tell clubs sniffing around to **** off
Are you sure I feel maybe Celtic just told him he is under contract and going nowhere, not that any of us would hear one way or the other, just a right way to handle it and keep things quiet compared to some managers who prefer their striker to look a bad guy to justify a decision.
Its about the same standard, if not a little worse. Which means a 25 year old striker should not be going for more than 6m imo
Nah, Hooper said in the summer he wants to stay at Celtic when Southampton were after him. Dunno why he would change his mind for Norwich, they really are in the same sort of standard as each other
I heard that Celtic made a last minute bid for Wolves' Doyle, but failed. Wonder if they would have accepted the Hooper bid if they'd landed Doyle?
I saw that too and that was my immediate thought. It woulda been a pretty big downgrade for Celtic though
2 things in his favour - 1. he's got a good Irish heritage, so mediocrity is more acceptable with such a pedigree. 2. Celtic are already 15 points ahead in the league, so able to trouser some cash with comfort.
But they are putting more focus on Champions League so I think they'd prefer to have Hooper upfront against Juve rather than Doyle. Still you do raise a good point
this was only 3 years ago ish just before he went to Celtic you know he played for Scunthorpe? the obvious step up and biggest team in yorkshire is Leeds so we get first dibs
I hoped that he didn't go to Norwich because if/when we get promoted I want Leicester to sign the lad. Top quality, really knows where the net is and will run his socks off.
1 million was same as twenty million to us. We were skint. Unlike now of course when we could have bought him at the drop of a hat with our new found wealth
