Warning, offensive material. Mike Williamson + Hatred of players for being poor.

Really don't understand why I'm hearing that Toon fans would like to see him go. It really pisses me off.

He's not a quality player. He makes sloppy errors in some games, and in terms of positioning he's quite average. However, as a squad player, he's a very good player to have in your team.

Steven Taylor has been getting injured as usual, and Williamson has had to step in and work hard.

He puts in quite solid performances in 75-80% of his games, and he wins most things in the air now. He's still improving, even though he's approaching 30. In his recent games, he's dealt with the likes of Fellaini and Pogrebnyak very well. He's won 80% of his headers against them, and looked strong.

I agree that he's not good enough to be our first choice, if we really want to be up there as a quality side, but I really dislike the "get rid" group. We do not need to get rid of him at all.

Over the last couple of months he's been our best and most consistent defender. Colo has been on and off due to personal problems. Santon has had his off games, and Debuchy has made some errors when trying to settle in. I'm not saying Willo has been fantastic, but he's been consistently solid, apart from the crappy cup game, but no one can really be singled out for that shower of ****.

Please lay off him, and also Simmo. These players are not fantastic all round players, but they do a good job when called upon, and the amount of stick they get is ******* ridiculous.

Onto my next point. Quite a few players frustrate me for their lack of good decision making and/or quality. Obertan has pissed me off a lot, but I really don't see why being not good enough, quality wise, means the player should be hated and given abuse.

The likes of Ranger deserve the hatred.. ****ers who **** about or are lazy are the ones deserving of hatred. But I see most of the anger and hatred at the likes of Obertan, simply for not being a good player. There's nothing wrong with criticising a player, or even saying he's ****, but I really don't understand why that should lead to a player being hated as a person.

You should never hate a player simply for being poor, in terms of quality, and as long as he is trying, he should be supported 100%.

It pisses me off that a player that's good, but a total **** as a person, is loved so much, yet a player who's not that good, but a nice person, is hated deeply.

Sorry, but sometimes swearing is necessary, as it adds heat to your words, and gets your point across. Could you not edit the title to say "warning, potentially offensive" or something?

To an extent, yes, but sometimes there needs to be a bit of emotion and fire in there.

If someone says "I'm annoying at this", it doesn't sound all that emotionally driven. But if someone says "I'm so f***ing annoying at this", it seems a lot more appealing, IMO.

 

Any more threads with the expletives will be deleted, so either cut them out or risk wasting your time posting your threads.

I agree with you.
Willo never claimed to be the world's best defender.
He's steady, not spectacular - and as far as I'm concerned, he's better/more reliable than the likes of Bramble, Boumsong, Rozendahl, Onyewu etc.
Some fol can't wait to jump on his bac for the slightest thing - but never moan about some of the others when they drop a huge clanger.

Tash, you are a very good writer. Believe me, you are able to get your point across because of your language facility and we can really sense the passion you have for this subject.

You must have heaps of vocabulary at your disposal. If you over-use the "naughty" words, they begin to lose their impact. Maybe you should save them for a really special occasion (like the next time Sir Alex opens his mouth....) Sorry if I sound like a teacher!

Having said that, do people really HATE Willo?

 

I know. I'm sorry. I'm just really fired up tonight. I've been cutting down on my alcohol over the last couple of months, and I've been living a healthier lifestyle, so whenever I drink I'm always excited and filled with testosterone, as I'm not as used to it.

I apologise for the offensive nature, just I get over eager.

I tend to think objectively, but sometimes my emotions get caught up in what I say.

I was wondering this... I am more likely than anyone to partake in a good jibe at his gormless expense, but it's hardly borne of hatred, just my mean observation he's not very good.

I don't hate Willo, he may not be the best in the business but he tries and he always puts a shift in.

Getting on his back isn't going to make him a better player.

 

Hatred is a very strong emotion and I certainly don't feel that way. But Willo does frustrate the hell out of me and leaves me in a nervous wreck whenever the ball goes near him.

 

right on! Newcastle have had some shocking defenders over the last 15 years and he is defiantly not the worst!!!

 

Don't hate him, clearly wants to do well for the club and does attempt to play and is a committed professional. Saying that I'd only ever want him as 4th choice, but if somebody plays poorly they deserve to be called on it, same as somebody playing well deserves praise.
