I'm not so sure. It was fun discussing Villa & Hulk yesterday but deep down i'm braced for a 33 yr old has-been or never-was loan deal. I'd take Charlie Austin right now if it was offered to me.
Ok. I'm gonna call it. I reckon Jenas, Bentley, Hudd, Livermore OUT Diame, Moutihno, one of Negredo or Damiao IN Lets go!! In Levy we trust!!! (Trying to stay positive in typically naive fashion!!! LOL)
My "hopeful" call will be: Striker: Preference - Negredo. Will also be delighted with: Gomis/ Lopez or of course, someone in a ridiculous standard like Hulk/ Villa etc, though extremely doubtful. CM: Preference - Diame. Will also be delighted with: Arouca (not even been said before but just saying his name). Wanyama (surprised I'm saying a Celtic's players name but he's the only player in SPL I think of Premier League standard). Short term solution for right back - No real preference but someone with experience and knows how to defend would be nice.
£19m for a player like Balotelli, especially at his age, is a good price. Yeah, he's a twat, but a talented twat.
Gards just mentioned about Sevilla playing hard ball. I asked him if any truth in rumours regarding Lopez and Gomis from Lyon, he replied saying he knows Lyon have troubles. So good chance that if Negredo bid fails (), we MAY be able exploit Lyon's situation and get a bid in for one of their strikers, both very good players in my opinion, Lopez would be my preference though.
Lisandro Lopez has a good record, but he's only 5"8. is he the number 9 we need? Gomis has a goal record of 1 in 3 which is pretty decent and he certainly seems like more of a number 9. - but again, he does seem like one of these "He'll do" signings on transfer deadline day, which is just a last resort because we've failed elsewhere.
I think both are improvements on what we have to be honest. If available for decent prices too we can't really go wrong. There are better players I'd prefer but I think they can definitely add some much needed fire power. Plus I'd rather one of them than Graham or Hooper.
in terms of numbers, I'd agree. But both have made very few international appearances and are both in their late 20's. are they really better? we probably won't have much choice, but they don't excite me.
don't write it off.... http://www1.skysports.com/football/...l-s-Leandro-Damiao-could-still-join-Tottenham
To be fair, Gomis more so than Lopez has had it hard on the international front. Over the years, he's had Henry, Anelka, Cisse, Saha, Benzema to compete with (maybe a few more). Negredo is in a similar boat, Villa, Torres, Llorente all to compete with.
