QPR manager Harry Redknapp paid tribute to departing defender Ryan Nelsen after his final performance in a Rangers shirt resulted in a 0-0 draw with Manchester City. . .. Rangers fans gave the New Zealander a standing ovation at full time and the 65-year-old knows that he will be losing one of his best players. âHeâll be missed massively,â the Rs boss said. âHeâs been fantastic. âHeâs an absolutely unbelievable player. âI wish him well as you couldnât get a better boy than him.â Although Nelsen made only 21 appearances for the Râs, he quickly became a fansâ favourite and was voted as London24âs QPR player of 2012. One person was seen booing Nelsen but he could not stay around to explain his actions as his mum was waiting outside for him.
Erm, difficult to see why this should change anyone's opinion. HR has already said he didn't like the fact that Nelson was going with so little notice. "He’ll be missed massively...He’s an absolutely unbelievable player...He's buggered off mid-season and left us in the lurch."
Any news from Toronto FC regarding what compensation, if any, we might be likely to get? Assuming of course that he was on a term contract and not a pay as you play deal I would have thought at least we'd have been entitled to the remainder of his contract paid off by his new team. He had a cracking game again last night and unless we get someone in like Samba we will certainly notice his absence.
Hes got 2 shot knees and a hamstring held onto his bone by 2 screws so its fair enough if he wants to retire but why did he sign a contract in the 1st place? Samba is better than Nelsen and is a huge threat at set pieces.
My rod is indeed stained. There were about 20 people near me giving Nelsen stick for quitting (some were applauding at the same time admittedly). Luckily mummy's got a mini-bus so she was able to give us all a lift home. So i take it kiwi, you'll be similarly chuffed whenever any of our other decent players puts a transfer request in, rips up his contract or walks out?
Just cos the overwhelming majority applaud him, doesn't mean I have to agree with them. I don't like players walking out. Particularly when they're decent.
But your ignoring the real reasons for his departure. Must find the article but if you see some of the injuries he is carrying around I'm surprised he still walking.
The real reason he's leaving is the job offer in Canada. If that hadn't come up, he'd still be playing for us - injuries or not.
Nelsen told reporters in Toronto last week that emotions would play a part in his competitive farewell. "If you do anything for that number of years, any job, there's a certain sadness when you leave because you've been doing it for so long," he said. Nelsen said the rigours of top-flight football had taken its toll on his body. "I've got two bone defects in my knees. Both have had operations, it's wear and tear. I've got a hamstring issue where my hamstring is screwed on with screws and mesh at the moment. It kind of wears on you and I'd like to one day be able to play with my kids instead of walking around with a cane. "I wouldn't say [I'm] at the top of my game, but I'm close," Nelsen said. "I always wanted to go out on my terms. I didn't want to be a player that kind of held on. Even now, though, my mind can see it but my body can't really back it up. When that was happening, I knew it was time." Read more: http://www.3news.co.nz/Ryan-Nelsen-...5/articleID/284935/Default.aspx#ixzz2JTs9dtOV
Indeed you don't have to agree with the majority but when you call people mental, idiots & pussy's to try and prove your point, you end up looking like a petulant child!
Fair point. I was just fuming at the prospect of having no centre half. But yeh, was petulant. Apologies
