On the bright side, if Poch wants to get a look at Fox in game action, this is the best time for it. It's a game we're probably going to lose anyway, and 90 minutes of Fox vs. Man U should disabuse him of any misplaced notions of the relative abilities of our two left backs.
This. Reeves is just a mediocre footballer who some people like because he is versatile and can play several positions which really just hides the fact that he isn't good enough for Saints.
If you look at any photo of MP with Shaw, its like looking at a father and son with the look on MPs face (not being creepy). MP would drop Shaw only because of injury as anyone can see that Shaw is the better defender and better going forward, Fox has the better delivery from dead ball situations only as he may have a better cross but you would not see Fox anywhere near the byeline to deliver it
Now then...Reeves has worked hard to progress through the reserves and into the first team picture over the last few years, even if he won't play for England, I'd rather have a young home grown player as a back up option than finding some average player from elsewhere! And if he does get a offer where he will play in a first team I am sure he will do well.
If Fox is playing left back as rumoured then I have no doubt Shaw will be playing left midfield. And we would be looking to line up 4411 rather than the more expansive 4231 we played against Everton. It would be like when Chelsea play Cole left back and Bertrand left mid/wing.
It really doesn't make sense to play Fox at LB and Shaw at LM. Shaw is a million times better than defending than Fox is. Fox can cross the ball and has some pace so he could play LM. Shaw could also overlap and go forward and still have pace to get back and defend. Anyway, let's see what the lineup actually is!
Yeah, I'm not saying that's what I'd play. Just if Fox is at left back then I'm expecting Shaw to be LM. I'd personally play 4411 Shaw LB, De Ridder LM with Ramirez central behind Lambert.
Fully agree with you. I would quite like to see Shaw at LB and Fox at LM tonight. We've got nothing to lose tonight and it could work.
If this is the start of some serious tinkering, then someone should tell him where we are playing tonight. This will not be pretty.
I seriously can't see Luke Shaw being dropped, one of the reasons stated by NC for the appointment of MP was his record of bringing through young players. Playing Fox at LM would make a lot of sense if Guly and Adam are not fit, his set piece delivery could be our best chance of scoring tonight.
