Can't say I'm surprised. We let players go (pay players off) who then go and do a job for other championship teams. Scotland's laughing right now, contract settled with us and already earning a wage elsewhere.
This decisions is one which has annoyed me slightly from Mick, a good quality player who could definitely offer something at least until the end of the season, who has a decent record at this level and yet he favours bringing someone like McLean in. I accept he wouldn't have played much in the first team but we certainly should've looked to use him more. No harm in just letting him keep his contract until the end of the season!!
Wasn't even given a chance to prove himself. 'Younger and hungrier' is all very well if you're talking about permanent signings, but what does age matter if you're playing loanees?
I am really annoyed about this! Only at Ipswich will you find such rank incompetence! Allowing a proven goal scorer to leave for nothing in fact paying him off and then him turning up at one of our main rivals this season. I love Town always have done and always will but ****ing hell it's really difficult to be a Town supporter at times! His goal last night for Barnsley could end up being the most expensive and crucial goal in our history if it means they stay up and we dont! ****ing shambles!
Very poor decision from Mick, the sort of thing we became use to with Keane and Jewell seemed to carry on that trait but I though Mick would have a lot more sense but it seems that these (decisions/'risks') seem to always be at our expense. Good luck to Jason though, it's just a shame that after the level of Professionalism he has shown for us in the past season and a half for us we now find ourselves watching him for a different club anxious of his goals..
Am I right in thinking that Ellington is still on our books? If this is the case then it makes this decision to release Scotland even more annoying and baffling!
Ellington is indeed still on the Payroll and no where nearer a spot in either the first or under 21 team than when he first joined
This club seems to stumble from one balls up to the next. It really beggars belief that we keep making these glaringly poor decisions time and time again.
At least we have got the best painted turnstyles in the league! You watch when we play Boro on Saturday... Leadboots will turn in a 'worldy display' and show us what he is really capable of! His free-kicks will all be on target and his corners will all clear the first man! The majority of decisions so far Mick has got right but I can't think for the life of me why he chose to release Scotland and keep Ellington! I just hope that Mick has got a secret signing up his sleeve for tomorrow because at the moment I'm feeling a bit deflated and underwhelmed. I guess its down to the results going against last night!
I have to agree that Leadbitter will come back to haunt us as I always felt there was a good player in there but he showed it in an Ipswich Shirt. I have to admit, I was skeptical about MM's appointment and we had some 'heated' debates JWM about his appointment, however I always felt that MM what what we 'Needed' at this time of crisis. I've warmed to him and will give him every opportunity (as I did with the past two plonkers) his approach has been somewhat invigorating at times but as you so aptly put JWM () that tight now we are feeling deflated and underwhelmed It will take a good manager to get us out of this and this decision only highlights my original concerns but I'm hopeful that some decent performance/results will remind me of the optimism I had a few weeks ago due to that no nonsense approach of Mick's
I don't know about anybody else, but i have a sneaking feeling with the whole DJ scenerio that he will end up back with us!
To be fair to Mick when he came in he did say that it will be nip and tuck all the way to the end of the season. Motivation and solid tactics can play their part but at some stage you also have to rely on the individual players ability to perform at this level. I think the last 4 or 5 games have highlighted the fact that the majority of players we have are simply not good enough to perform consistently at this level. We can all have a debate about they why's and the where fors but that is the bottom line. Our talented players have all been given away or sold over the last 3 or 4 years without adequate replacements and you can't keep going on like this if you want to be sucessful at any level. It will be a miracle if Mick keeps us up and if he does it will rank alongside the achievements of Ramsey, Robson and Burley that's for sure!
A lot of it all depends on the player aswell, Big Jase probably took a gamble and took half the money that he would have got for his contract and then went out to find a club. Ellington probably thinks (quite rightly) that no other club will go for him (why would they) so won't accept a pay off of half his contract, so in that case we might as well hold on to his registration.
Guru, as much as I would be annoyed about 39 strikers on our books, I would take DJ back in a heartbeat. Then send back McLean. Out of all the strikers we've had since Darren Bent/Marcus Stewart DJ is the only one who has a natural goal scoring ability and would certainly go a long way to keeping us up this season, I didn't realise we'd miss him as much as we have done in the past few weeks...

This is definately the time for Mr Evans to show his mettle and actually break the bank if he has to in order to get DJ back.
