Should the Circuit de Catalunya be expected to make some changes?

How long since it was last altered? If the drivers are all saying it is too comfortable - then the authorities should be leaned on to make changes. Yes or No?

All they need to do is to undo the last alteration! Get rid of that awful Mickey Mouse bit before the start/finish straight and give us back one of the most daunting corners in F1.

The drivers loved it. Health and safety did not. Enter Captain Tilke to destroy the very best feature of any Spanish circuit…

I dont know what it was like before but are you suggesting removing that high downforce/turbulent air corner before the straight. Cos I think that is needed. Although maybe not this year. Just need to let the pirellis do their stuff ;)

Bernie gets what Bernie wants, If he wants it changed it'll happen. Other than that nothing will change about it.

    Yes.
I cannot remember which year it was altered but it seems like only yesterday to me. I loved that corner.

I haven't been there since that change - it must be some years.

    Oh that chicane....

It really is annoying... slows the cars down and you really have to be fiddly with those cars as the apexs can cause you to lose the rear end.

    Er, yeah - rather hurriedly.

No one seems to realise that Tilke is the reincarnation of Andy Warhol and is just surrounded by a bunch of hangers on going, "oh yah, that's totally rad Herbert."

I used to watch from Sabbadell slope. Seemed a good spot then.

I think they changed the last corner to try and improve overtaking, which is fine, but then why did they replace it with a stupid chicane?

If they were bone idle they would of just left it how it was, but instead they tried to improve the track by making it worse.

They had to do something because they were commissioned by the FIA to overhaul it. Instead of researching, brainstorming, contemplating, simulating, iterating, deliberating, estimating or debating someone handed Tilke a Circuit de Catalunya-shaped piece of paper, he cut a chunk out of it, and they all went off for lunch and to come down off the acid they'd taken that morning.

Track Guide by Carno(Prime Minister Cameron):

Turn 1: 4th gear around 130mph on the apex... to quick to really make a move stick.

Turn 2: Easy flat out in quali laps

Turn 3: Will be touch and go whether it is flat out or not. My prediction is yes for Vettel. No for the rest.

Turn 4 : Easy enough... nothing to worry about...

Turn 5 : Gotta get the car slowed down.. I have seen a lot of front left locking there

Turn 6 and 7 : Very tricky of the entry and exit. Use then inside kerb as an apex and the exit one as the exit kerb

Turn 8(Campsa) : Once again will be touch and go whether flat out or not. 6th gear a gear up on Turn 3 so should be harder for Vettel at least.

Turn 9 : Get the car slowed down as you come to the end part of the lap after a bit of a staright. Probably the best chance to overtake IMO on this track.

    Turn 10 : Flat out.

Turn 11 : This corner causes a bit of understeer.

Turn 12 : Fast 3 gear corner which is really an approach to the chicane.

Turn 13 and 14 : Really tricky and annoying corner. The kerbs are fiddly so tackle them gently as this is where you can lose the laptime.

Turn 15 : Since the introduction of the chicane this is easy flat out which leads you onto the pit straight to complete a lap.

Nice idea, Carno. It's great what you can do on a proper forum.

The HRT and Webber pics wouldn't load for me. Says they're verboten.

No problem. Infact I might do one for each track. I wont create another thread for it, but I will do it on the chat thread for that race weekend.

As for the pic errors, they work perfectly for me.

    <ok>

But with all the updates everyone is bringing, it will be interesting to see who can take turn 9 flat. Turn 3 is quite simple IMO. But turn 9 is taken in 6th gear as opposed to the 5th taken in turn 3.

I also remember in 08(I think) Hiekki had a massive incident there with some sort of tyre failure. There was also a crosswind at that corner at that weekend in 08 and it caused most drivers and cars to have to do a downshift to 5th gear to make the corner.
