That race was a typical false race, came done purely to who was in the right place at the right time, luckily for you, that happened to be Richard Johnson. I have absolutely no doubt the best horse in the race finished 3rd. Very few horses are blessed with an amazing turn of foot to combat these situations, look at Camelot in the Leger, clearly the best horse in the race, Barzalona stole it from the right place at the right time. Nobody is going to tell me the rag that won the leger, cant even remember its name, is a better horse than Camelot. The ability to quicken instantly off a slow pace dosent mean you have a bigger or better engine than a horse who cant. Not that the your horse today quickened any better than the fav, his 3 length start off the turn won the race, was nothing to do with him quickening faster. Same goes for the leger winner, he was ridden for over a furlong and hit top stride before Camelot was asked to go.
I don't disagree. I wouldn't compare a jumpers bumper with a doubtful stayer in a weak Leger though. Shouldn't AP have been aware of all the points you rightfully make? Vaughan's camp had a plan and backed their horse all day probably on the basis of the strength of that plan. It was obvious pre race confidence was not there behind your fella.
I realise you arent going to get a ferocious pace, but that today was just ripping the pish, they werent even galloping for the first 3/4.
Nass: Must be the first time he ever watched a Bumper? Bugger all strange about a false pace in those bloody things...........
Must be, but I did love his comparison with the St Leger. To me I think he was saying that Camelot wouldn't win a bumper.
Ive seen a thousand bumpers, most of them are slowly run, but there is slowly run and then what I seen today. I wouldnt even say they ran the first half of the race, they literally walked for 3/4 of the first mile, and the commentator noted most of them went down to the start faster. Now ive never heard that in a race before. Havent you got bent jockeys and trainers to be defending Nass?
Ron,Red,Bob and Ginge and everyone else...thanks for the messages guys. Had a good old day and a right old session. Errigle,Crown Bar,Robinsons,The Mermaid,Whites Tavern,Northern Whig,The Spaniard,Cloth Ear,Duke Of York and dinner in Coppi.. Belfast City Centre like a ghost town after that...City Centre at 10.30 was me and my better half and no one else...approached a City Cab and the driver was having a kip and told us to find another! Thought I knew every ale house in the City but found a bar that reminded me of the one from the likely lads...all formica and crappy furniture. Called McElhattens and I loved it....RUK on one telly and ATR on the other...not for the faint TBH hearted but good decent punters. Well done on the winners today guys...as usual some good shouts.
A taxi driver sat asleep at his wheel, at 10.30...!!! They must know how to charge... Looks like you had a good little tour of the streets of Belfast Dex... McElhattens sounds just like the place to be when it all kicks off, in a good way that is...
