It's in there two or three times. I watched it t'other night and mentioned it to my mate, and he says it's supposed to symbolize Kingsley. At the end it smashes up his coffin from what I remember.

Fair point, I think it's probably why I think Ben Kingsley is the best British actor and Gene Hackman is the best American one.

I thought Winstone was really good in 44 Inch Chest too, but as it was the same writer and tone as Sexy Beast, it's probably not surprising.

I agree with Ben Kingsley, but put him equal first with John Hurt . Best American actor for me is Dustin Hoffman.

John Hurt is excellent too, but Dustin Hoffman gets on my nerves, I don't really rate anything he's done since the 60/70's.

Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken, Jack Nicholson for me. Might change how you define Best Actor. Could it be one performance? Or is it a career, or is it a decade of work? Or is it a low budget movie which tends to require greater acting strengths.

Morgan Freeman is excellent, but he tends to play Morgan Freeman, same is true of Samuel L Jackson.

Marathon Man, Midnight Cowboy, All The President’s Men, Papillon, Death of a Salesman, Tootsie, and Rainman are probably his best, but like you say he’s bowed to the mighty dollar recently (like many others) and acts in mediocre films as the big name hook (Oh yeah he played Captain Hook too).
Problem is that 90% of films are crap these days so decent roles are few and far between.

As I said, all his decent stuff was in the 60's and 70's(you missed The Graduate), I thought Tootsie was ****ing appalling and Rainman was ruined by Cruise overacting all the way through it.

I should have put Samuel L. Jackson on my list for Black Snake Moan.

Hoffmans 1995 film Outbreak was an enjoyable film. Plus i enjoyed Meet the Fockers that he made in 2004.

I didn't think he was that good in The Graduate and yes Tootsie was an annoying film, but he acted a tough role very well.

Famous story about Marathon Man when Hoffman kept running to get ready for a scene and after a few times of him having to go running again and again to get in character for a particular scene, Olivier turned and said "my boy, can I suggest you try acting".

Best living American actor, Morgan Freeman

Outbreak was a mediocre film, carried by the fact that it had Morgan Freeman, Cuba Gooding, Jr, Donald Sutherland and Kevin Spacey in it.

Meet the Fockers was bloody awful.

Clint Eastwood might be on the list if every part he did wasnt the same part. Also there was that chair incident recently that left me with a sour taste in my mouth.

Going back a bit i know, but James Stewart was a great actor,Rear window being one of my all time favs, and De Niro is class. John Travolta deserves a mention.

And in a new category, the worst American actor by a million hectares,is Keanu Reeves. Man he's ****.
