I do have a problem selling him for an unproven striker. ---------------- You make out we have decided to sell him, just so we can bring in this unknown. If he hadnt requested to leave, the unknown would stay just that!!! Crazy how 5yr ago Becchio was that unproven striker that was never going to replace David Healy or Rob Hulse. Unknown Jermaine Beckford was signed from non-league Wheldstone and sent to Scunny on Loan before partnering Unknown Becchio in L1. We're due another gem i reckon...
How much rubbish has been through the doors since trying to find another gem Grella, Paynter, Varney, Showumni, Kandol. Remember the constant sniping at Becchio to try force his hand and also remember Lorimer tried to get him to hull last January but he insisted on staying. For every gem we've managed to unearth theres been at least ten ugly ducklings
I agree mate! Albeit at a lower level than this, and in a worse financial state than this...but unfortunately the bad signings have heavily outweighed the good signings. Thats why i think its about time we dropped on another
Exactly, if anyone believes that Becchio has not been cornered into this then.... well I can't be bothered to labour the point, put it that way.
Just been confirmed on the BBC that the player met with Leeds officials this afternoon. Club are waiting for Leeds offer, and a couple more English clubs are chasing him??
Think the wheels are coming off on this one .... Adam Pope ‏@APOPEY Zulte Waregem's communications officer Cedric Tack tells @bbcleeds that #lufc are yet to make an offer for their striker Habib Habibou Tack says this month Habibou:"left our training session in Marbella to do tests & talking with #lufc but we haven't got an official offer." Tack said:"On the grapevine we know #lufc is one of the clubs who want Habibou but so far we did not receive an official offer so we wait."
Well, looks like he's going somewhere ! Habib Habibou ‏@HabibHabibou7 I hope THE last day Belgium
Most interesting development ..... http://m.voetbalkrant.com/nl/nieuws/lees/2013-01-30/malanda-en-habibou-toch-op-weg-naar-engeland Translation by Google (Don't blame me! My Flemish is rather rusty). Rumor: 'Malanda and Habibou still on his way to England' Junior Malanda and Habib Habibou Tuesday were absent on training Zulte Waregem. Malanda was in talks with Fulham and Habibou looks towards the English Championship. Leeds wants the attacker half season loan. Malanda Tuesday was negotiating with Fulham. The English club seemed to catch on the high transfer price of six million, but for now there are contacts. The English second division Leeds United would have let his eyes fall on Habib Habibou. The club wants the striker on loan for the remainder of the season. Habibou announced via Twitter earlier farewell already. The two players Zulte Waregem appear before the close of the transfer market to leave. "A second place in the standings is no longer sufficient to allow players to keep. The self-interest of the estate continues to grow, "says Dury in HLN "Not expected" "I did not expect that these files have gained momentum would come," commented the coach of Zulte Waregem. "Habibou told me he wanted to finish the season here. Now it seems that Leeds would hire him for six months with an option to buy. "
Either a change of plan or serious competition .... Austekkers. ‏@Austekkers Zulte Waregem: A English club has bid for Habibou and the striker has left training. The transfer bid was £1M. Contact from #lufc and Fulham
"Now it seems that Leeds would hire him for six months with an option to buy. " Could be a good bit of business? Try before we buy?
We can't find a buyer for Becchio then? It would seem so obvious GFH are broke (when it comes to funding players) it is embarrassing
Why does it have to be that GFH are broke. I'm not saying they are not but I don't think the loan before buy (this is the first time I've heard it, everywhere else I have read a fee of 1m now) is a bad option for someone who has never played in england before. We could end up doing a Hull with the Proswitch dude where they bought him for a ridiculous fee and have found he's not good enough
Josh, his club have confirmed on more than one occasion, including today, that we haven't put a bid in for him. I think if we had intent to buy him, we would have put a bid in. We can only do that if we have money, and therein lies the reason for speculation - we don't appear to be bidding for anyone! Haven't heard a cheep re. bids - not even rumours on Twitter! Even the LB/Morrison thing is a swap deal, and possibly some cash to us. No outlay. (Sound familiar?). Gives further reason for suspicion. Actions speak louder than words, and we're not hearing any encouraging words, far less seeing a bastarding thing! Can you blame people for being suspicious? The only positive to counter the suspicion is the oft-repeated phrase from Warnock 'Sean is working his socks off'. FFS!!!
Where does it say we haven't put a bid in for him today? I swear to god your tweet that you posted on this very thread says they have had a bid from an english club for 1m. We are an english club..... Anyway, as I was trying to put across. Regardless of whether we have money or not, surely its a better idea to loan him first with the option to buy. Even if we had 10m in the bank it still would make sense for the loan deal would it not?
For what its worth, Adam Pope tweeted yesterday: "Zulte Waregem's communications officer Cedric Tack tells @bbcleeds that #lufc are yet to make an offer for their striker Habib Habibou." Today there was word that Fulham is in the mix too.
The problem with 'try before you buy' is that if he's any good, he'll be signing on at Norwich at the end of the season instead of staying at Elland Road.
What's the betting at end of season bates will remain as chairman because gfh have failed to come up with balance of money for buyout? 7 month takeover saga, late payments, no money spent on players, bates still chairman, Harvey messing with contracts. Are we not entitled to be a little suspicious that gfh are broke
Yes but today Zulte Waregem tweeted they had recieved a 1m offer from an english club I think the Fulham link is to do with the other player more than Habibou and people are getting confused because Fulham are contacting Zulte fortunately, when a permanent transfer is agreed, its normally a fixed price that both clubs have agreed on and you get first dibs on him. Often contracts are sorted as well prior to the actual time of the transfer
Josh - I think it is so blatantly obvious that the reason we haven't signed anyone apart from the loans that were already here is because we haven't sold Becchio yet. If GFH had funds they would have made a move by now, FFS we are into the last day once again, this is Howson V2.0 all over again. Habibou is back-up on loan with a view to a permanent IF the Becchio Morrison swap deal falls through, that's how I see it.
I'm not even talking about whether we have money or not. I'm talking about the sense of loaning jhabibou because it makes sense. Even if we did hae money I'd prefer us to take this option. It's better for everyone involved
