Midfielder Anthony Wordsworth is currently undergoing a medical at Portman Road before signing for the Blues in a £100K transfer from Colchester. A very good signing imo and will definately solve some of our problems in creating things from midfield. A decent dead ball taker so again will add firepower to where we have been badly lacking. Move over Martin your days as a Town player are at an end! http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/22374/wordsworth-set-for-medical
Potentially got a very good player here. Goalscoring midfielder with a fantastic left foot capable of scoring some brilliant goals. Also as you've said a good set piece taker. However is rather lazy player and often goes missing in games. This season his attitude has been terrible. Hasn't looked interested or up for the relegation fight and his form has dropped significantly.(Imagine his head had already been turned) Said that MM is just the kind of manager to kick that out of him and get the best out of him.. Overall he is a talented player capable of playing in the Championship and at only 100k is well worth a gamble.
I'd rather see him replace Edwards and shift Martin out to the right as although both of them have been useless in recent times Martin has atleast shown some endevour and workrate (with no end product) whereas Edwards hasn't produced any end product and has put in minimal effort As for Wordy, very happy about this. I remember playing in the same team as him at Colchester academy and he's bulked up a lot since then and I fancy he'll quite easily be a decent player at this level for us
Agree KOPR. For me Edwards (unless used as RB) just shouldn't be in our team. Currently until we get another winger or CM put Wordsworth on the left and Martin on the right!! Again pleased with this one
Really excited about this, if we start being a threat from set pieces it could make a huge difference to the team. I can't even remember the last set-piece specialist we had??
Jimmy Juan? Jim Magilton? Probably the most recent decent dead ball takers that I can remember anyway
Darren Currie was probably the best set piece taker I've seen in recent years, Garvan wasn't too bad and who can forget Veno. Bullard was good also. I actually think Creswell and Drury aren't too bad but for some reason for the past few years we've kept giving freekicks to players who seem incapable of delivering despite having players in the team who I think are, why Leadbitter and Martin take/took them I have no idea!!
darren currie and gary roberts come to mind.. this guy sounds like a good player then, what is his main position? is he quick enough to be a winger?
Good signing and an absolute steal. Hopefully he'll be able to make the step up to Championship. Martin needs to show more for me if he's going to earn an extension. Hopefully this guy will replace him if not.
Forgot about Bullard, but when he was OUR player (not loaned) he wasn't overly impressive in any area of his game. Cresswell has potential but he just never makes the right decision, goes for goal from 40 yards out, plays a short ball when you just want him to put it in the box etc...
Neil Thompson's corners were incredible... they seemed to hit the moon and then come down into the box!
I wouldn't want to be facing a free-kick taken by Thompson! Or Ted Phillips in his prime for that matter!
As you say Venus was indeed awesome at free kicks, must have been some power in the one that smashed into Alex Notmans ankle, it ended his career.
Ted Phillips was my Dad's favourite player. He said that the reason why Ray Crawford scored so many goals was due to the keeper spilling the thunderbolt shots that Ted used to fire in! I wouldn't have wanted to be in goal facing one of them especially with the old heavy leather football they used to play with!
