WEST HAM have launched a late January bid to land Celtic star Emilio Izaguirre.

Express Sport can reveal that the Hammers hope to land the Honduran international, although it remains to be seen if the Premier League club have the financial muscle to strike an agreement before the end of the month.

The Hammers would prefer to take Izaguirre on loan then pay the bulk of any fee, around £4 million, in the summer as they will then know if they are still in the Premier League and entitled to their cut of the enhanced new TV rights.

A potential loan deal with a view to a summer sale has already been put to the Hoops.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce has made the left-back position his priority and Izaguirre is at the top of his list – even though he has other options.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon, who is still trying to fend off interest in Gary Hooper from Norwich, is not under any pressure to sell and wants to keep the bulk of his squad together for the Champions League tie with Juventus.

The other side of the coin, though, is that Izaguirre’s form has dropped after his first-season heroics saw him named Scotland’s player of the year, while Celtic know the 26-year-old is keen to try his luck in England.

Izaguirre arrived in Scotland from Motagua for a bargain £600,000 in 2010 but took time to return to top form after breaking an ankle at Pittodrie in 2011. Lennon has options for the left-back slot should he be sold.

Norwich are preparing to make a third offer of more than £7m plus add-ons for Hooper. They have been foiled twice but Canaries boss Chris Hughton is ready to return with an improved offer to entice Celtic to do business – especially as contract talks with the striker have broken down.

Celtic have a number of options, including Charlie Austin of Burnley and Chivas USA’s American international Juan Agudelo.

It emerged last night that Celtic could face former Chelsea and Arsenal striker Nicolas Anelka when they take on Juve next month in the Champions League.

The 33-year-old signed a six-month deal with the Serie A leaders after negotiating his release from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.

Trevez was for sale last year , there were no takers. Carroll was for sale in
The summer, no takers. Celtic had D Murphy for sale again no takers. Is
there a trend, players for sale or not wanted by other clubs, and players
wanted by other clubs are not for sale. Hence the inflated price.

Listen the success at this transfer window having got two in already is not losing
any. If we do get a player or two more in that will be a bonus.
It appears we won't lose big Victor in this window as the media "experts" say it
Would take a week to sort out his work permit because Kenya is not rated in the
    top 70.

Big Anelka can sulk over there as much as he did in London. I wouldn't expect
Him to get much game time, or else they are weaker than I thought. He is
a long time on the go.

Nothing wrong with that Espaniacelt . Hope he has a long successful career at Celtic
We will soon forget he is from Dublin.
That Bloody Daily Record always trying to worry us fans and sneer at us
as some type of backward people living in the past. Why should Hooper have to
Stand by his phone all night last night as if he wasn't the full shilling. Surely.
He could have sat with his mobile in his pocket waiting for any call that may come.
