But there should have come a point in one of the windows where levy reduced the price and took a hit to get something for those players, and the wage bill freed up for new players.
Lol. I posted earlier- I dunno what wages Carlo, Gomes, Bentley and jenas are/were on, but say its 150k total? That's 7.8mill a year in their wages. - take Carlo out of that as he'd been back up for a while Until we signed lloris, But the other 3?! Unbelievable!
The lads who called the holtby signing days ago, have already dismissed that one. Danny graham?! I mean seriously.
SOS- your mate Gards posted a tweet earlier saying "hmm interesting". (Apparently nothing to do with spurs) but 2 sources mentioned similar things to him. Since then, a post has gone on SC from a user who they all think is Gards. Even Gards twitter cronies are asking him if its him. The post mentioned that 2 sources have confirmed the same fee for willian. - so as you can imagine, everyone thinks its Gards and that's what his "hmmm interesting" tweet was all about. Meltdown has begun lads! Apparently we've bid 21mill euro's for Willian! The next few days is going to be painful...
In Summer I had the transfer deadline day off (by chance - I didn't book it off for that reason!) I'm kinda glad I'll be at work for this one.
Better news is that a previous transfer out, is proving to be a huge success... On 31 August 2012, Giovani dos Santos signed a four-year deal with Spanish outfit RCD Mallorca, being introduced as their new number 9. On 22 October, dos Santos made his debut for Mallorca, playing 60 minutes and assisting both goals in a 3-2 away defeat to Sevilla. Giovani dos Santos played another 60 minutes on 28 October in a 5-0 home defeat to Real Madrid. Giovani scored his first goal against Espanyol on January 18, 2013. 11 games, one goal.
Roo - I would love a signing like Willian. Even though its a gamble it shows a real sign of intent. All my life as a Spurs fan we are always the nearly men. Sundays result was no surprise and I'm sure most fans supporting Spurs as long as i have feel the same. We have a great squad already and with a couple of tweaks we could be challenging for the league not just top four. Our first choice midfield is as good as any in the league but as always we have injuries or we decide to rest players when we should be playing a full strength team in ALL cup competitions. Why rest players? It makes no sense and really pisses me off. If we are playing one up front as our first choice formation then we don't need more strikers as hopefully Defoe is back on Wednesday and Adebayor back soon. I have doubts over Leandro and whether he is our answer to our striking problems. He would be a huge risk signing. A world class striker is hard to find and would they come to us anyway? Willian clearly wants a move and he could be the creativity we need that when Dembele doesn't play we miss so badly. It has been mentioned many times but we are a one man team. Without Dembele we are a completely different team. When you have Parker and Huddlestone as your centre midfield you are hardly going to score goals especially with no strikers in front of them. Parker hasn't even scored for us and Huddlestones Afro will be touching the floor by the the he finds the back of the net. Rant over!
I'd take graham in a heartbeat. He's better than our current option up front, that NO STRIKER bloke. Would offer something different to what we have.
I know exactly where you're coming from Jack. There's been some interesting conversation on here since the Leeds game, which has mentioned the points you've raised. I've made my opinions clear, and you'll find them on Just about any thread u wanna look on! For me it's a striker, another "dembele" and a few players shipped out to make way for a little bit more up and coming quality. I've lost faith in hudd, Livermore or sigurdsson being able to do a job for us at this level. YV made the suggestion yesterday that sig should go out on loan now holtby is coming in. - totally agree. There's also been the "we can't spend money or wages on certain players" conversation, which is true, but I also feel strongly about the money we seem to waste/have wasted in the past. Our transfers have been very hit and miss and still v costly. Sometimes you do get what u pay for and values are there for a reason. It works two ways. Lewis holtby is great example if the business we should be doing if the hype is true. 22, 1.5m and supposedly a £20mill player. - brilliant. We've got the best of every scenario there. - but he's a lucky one. They won't all be like that, and we've got to get better at it. WY, he can barely get in swansea's side and the clubs who want him are Norwich and Sunderland. Those days are behind us now. Yes he's better than no one, but we need to be aiming for better quality, even if its a loan. - no disrespect to DG, he's just not right for us.
http://www.sambafoot.com/en/news/42252_tottenham_launch_last_ditch___20m_bid_for_leandro_damiao.html Tottenham have launched a last ditch attempt to sign Internacional striker Leandro Damião with a £20m bid being prepared according to reports in England. The Daily Star claims that Andre Villas-Boas is desperate to add a striker to his ranks and wants to bring Damião to the club to fill in for Emmanuel Adebayor. Spurs have approached Internacional in the past for the striker but several offers have been turned down. Damião's agent has been quoted this month hinting at a possible move to Tottenham: "While Leandro Damiao stays at Internacional, Tottenham will always be interested. Andre Villas-Boas has liked him since he was Chelsea's manager." The Internacional forward shot into the public eye with a series of outstanding performances for Brazil at London 2012 where he netted six goals in six games on their way to the final. The striker has also scored seven times in 19 appearances in last season's Brasileirão.
Yeah saw that mate, not sure what to think. Like you said he did say it was non-spurs related and he doesn't usually lie if his info is or isn't Spurs stuff. As for Willian... Great player but where would he fit? Bale and Lennon are definite mainstays at the moment, Holtby said prior to signing that he didn't want the "Lloris treatment" in that he'd want to just start straight away and kick on, Dembele is the same as Bale and Lennon and then it leaves Parker (while Sandro's out - who'd be a mainstay) to do the DM stuff which we need. Don't get me wrong I love strengthening the squad/ team but would find it hard for Willian to come in right now, especially as we haven't seen what sort of impact Holtby could have, for all we know we could've just picked up ourselves a "Michu". Plus I'd rather that €20m be used on a striker. Wouldn't it be amazing if on deadline day you saw coming across the yellow ribbon on SSN one of Cavani/ Higuain/ Negredo/ Lewandowski/ Villa/ Gomez having medical at Tottenham etc. Oh if only dreams could come true!
ermm... don't know if this was mentioned yesterday, but im reading that Defoe could be out for a month and might need an operation on a pelvic injury!
Yaaaayyy no striker! Oh no wait, we have OBIKA!!! "Obika, woaooo! Obika, woaooo! He comes from Edmonton, he's gonna score a tonne! Obika, woaooo!"
it got very confusing. i don't know what to make of it. it's a strange one, we need a creative player, as well as a striker, IMO. both are important. I do wonder if AVB sees bale as a striker though. This season bale has done so much drifting inwards and he cant be pretty lethal down the middle. He's a fairly big lad, athetic and can head the thing. It does make me wonder whether Willian is seen as: a) a creative solution b) a wing solution (can play bale's role comfortably, with pace and skill) c) a striker solution - bale going up front. the club could be killing 3 birds with 1 stone here....
Get rid of Bentley and Jenas 'buy one get one free', then hijack the Goons for Villa, that'd be nice (not the pantomime in the Midlands)
