Thought this was a good read on the mentality of players, especially what you look for when you try to buy them. I know we talk about the lack of physical prescence in our squad but we also talk a lot about how weak we are mentally, go down a goal and the game might as well be over it seems!

Its a good point and something I certainly feel was a weakness in Dalglish's recruitment of players. You only need lokk at Sir Alex Freemason to see the difference in the type of players they go after.

I dispute utd... I think you need to look at the amount of bloody flops they've had to know the REAL difference is ferguson immediately dispenses with the services of anyone he finds wanting. Others such as us perservere with a player.. examples wuold be how long arshavin stayed i nthe arsenal team or how allen keeps on popping up.

I deliberately stayed away from the boards after our performance on sunday but there is two points which i thought i'd throw out there.

    1. we basically saw coates bottle it on sunday. I can't beleive this is the guy we say 12-18months ago and he doesn't look like he spent a day i nthe gym or has developed at all. Skertl isn' the toughest of guys i nthe air but he had the mental abilty to go take the lumps his partner bottled out of.

    2. Game awarenss is a geat talent isn't it? You could see joe allen running about like a headless chicken there and not having the next pass in mind, where to be who to cover, when to go forward etc. I was amazed henderson was pushed to right full (where he did well btw) while allen reamined on the pitch on sunday. I thought it was his worst performace in a red shirt:undecided: Robinson and wisdom also showed on occasion the just were not in the right position and got punished for it.

Do you think Coates has much of a future at the club? Do you think Rodgers will eep putting allen in no matter what?

mine was specifically about players at the club who flopped on sunday and this article is about some psyhcobabble nonsense that comolli spouts about singings players.

You really do have to be very careful when you start using personality, attitude and other such psychological test; particularly when those test were not designed for the environment in which they are being employed. Just as important is the potential players group profile ie how that player has fitted into the groups (squads, teams, etc.) at former clubs and the roles that they have adopted.

good point. I think even as a risk mitigation tool what guys are looking to do is nearly impossible to have any real data for.

I mean you are right. if i bought RVP i'd know damn well what i get.. thats why those guys are expensive. that want to do some test on a kid and predict with some positve impact all sorts of things. I have to wonder about that. work does those interview psychometric tests but really aside from basic knowledge of IQ or probelm solving does it really tell if someoen wil lnsap and shoot their boss?

Lets face it you can go loads to predict a 14 year odl will be the next messi and then some numpty manager might not fancy him for god knows what reason and it all falls apart.
