Brilliant piece of business by Spurs. To get a top quality midfield, aged 22 for £1.5m, and in the January transfer window is amazing. Also by looking at his current stats, he seems to be playing really well in the German league for a good side. It all depends on how quickly he adjusts to the Premiership, the quicker he can adjust, the better it'll be for Spurs.
Short, humorous interview with 5 of the Ivory Coast side. The two Toures, Drogba, Gervinho and Kalou. Most of it's not really relevant, but at the 1.02 mark they're asked who's the most skilful player in the squad and they all instantly agree on Zokora. Did I miss something?!
I hope he's as good as everyone's making out. Fans of football clubs tend to do this with new signings, myself included. people are saying he's a £20 million player? i can't believe I've never heard of someone with that sort of value.
perhaps Zokora is looking for a move and paid them to say him.... after all, it is Eriksson who buys players after watching them on youtube to see what they are like, right?!....
I guess people don't follow the Bundesligue as much, but it seems, most of the new talent is coming from Germany now. They seem to be churning out a large array of talented midfielders, Holtby being one of them. To have 7 assists and 4 goals at this stage of the season are very good stats. Add to the fact, he will have better personnel around him at Spurs, you can expect him to keep it up.
^^^...the good, the bad, and the ugly!
thats certainly encouraging and I cant fault any of the reasons we've gonefor him. he was cheap, looks promising with a good record, and he's young. That's the best approach for us. Sometimes it'll work, sometimes it wont. fingers crossed.
There seems to be a fair few Arsenal fans pretty disappointed that they missed him, but I've not been able to tell whether that's just people jumping on the bandwagon or not, when really they don't know anything about him. makes you wonder why no one else was competing for his signature if he's that good though. - especially with the low fee/ freebie option in 6 months. Our transfers are hit and miss a lot of the time, so we'll have to wait and see!
willian seems to be at it again. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892...ayer-dreams-of-playing-in-the-premier-league? I actually prefer reading the comments at the bottom of Goal.com's articles. "Serton" is definitely the best version of "Certain" i have ever seen.
I've admired some of the talent coming through in Germany, like Reus & Gotze, so if this guy is in the same class then I'll be over the moon! just wonder why he was allowed to run down his contract? you would think he would have been tied up to a long deal to ensure the german club received a large fee if he was so highly rated.
Who is Lewis Holtby? Born in Germany in 1990, his English father is an Everton fan so he was brought up as an England supporter He earned his first Germany Under-21 caps in 2009 and became the captain His previous clubs include Borussia Monchengladbach, Alemannia Aachen, VfL Bochum and Mainz
Holtby is a good signing. Provides cover for Dembele as he's played deeper before and is well suited to the number 10 role as his starting position. So far, sig and Dempsey have failed to perform in that area and we desperately need some creativity. Too many shots outside the box (Defoe) because we can't break down a park the bus side. People who follow the German leagues seem to think a lot of him and he had a good game against arsenal in the champions league so I'm very optimistic. Not to mention only reus and muller have more assists than holtby (7) in the League so far with 8. Still need a bloody striker though. And some luck. If the wingers or any more central mids get crocked we're buggered.
I've always assumed that it was because whoever advises Levy on player trading told him they were worth more money than was ever offered. Surely that has to be Harry as a big song and dance was made about dispensing with a Director of Football when Harry joined as manager. Easy mistake to make since someone else told Levy that Bentley was worth mega bucks when he was signed. Also explains why we extended Jenas's contract since that maintains the ability to get a transfer fee and probably costs little in practice as most of the wages get paid if he is out on loan. I understand why Levy negotiates the transfers but if he also values the players something is badly wrong.
I'm glad this got done. I hope it will make the team a little less fragile. I have to admit I'm a little concerned about how the team gets juggled to fit him in. Dempsey hasn't gotten much love on this board (certainly not from me) but he's worked hard and scored key goals, which is enough for most fans. The problem is that he hasn't been a good fit at CAM
I think the original prices paid you can mostly put down to Comolli. What mystifies me is why players like Bentley were not sold 2-3 years ago, when at least they had some value. Hence my query as to whether this was down to amortisation on the P & L accounts.
It's one thing wanting to sell him. It's another thing entirely someone wanting to buy him. If he's playing rubbish for us, or just plain not playing, there won't be many clubs willing to make the risk (especially when you consider that Levy would want to recoup most the money he paid for him)
