Anyone know how much we received for Ryan Nelson from that Canadian outfit? As he's been our best player I'm hoping it's a decent amount. I'm still hacked off that he's going now rather than seeing the season out. Everyone on here's talking about giving him a great ovation against City for what looks like his last game. Sorry, but I can't agree. He's been immense for us but he's still chucked it in because a better offer's come up. Effectively he's handed in a transfer request. And I'm not giving a standing ovation for anyone who does that in the middle of a relegation battle.
Its a once in a career offer and the MLS season begins in March, so he needs time to go there and prepare the team before hand. I doubt there is a fee for him as I think he is being allowed to break his contract, making him a free agent, though please correct me if i am wrong on this. Considering he came here to be third choice and his legs are pretty ruined and he is in pain when he plays, i can see his point in wanting to leave. I wouldn't begrudge him this chance to return to the MLS which is a great breeding ground for management talent the way they run the game out there which is very coach-oriented. Will get a great reception from me for sure.
He shouldn't have signed a contract with us then if his ambition was to coach in the MLS this March. And his legs can't be that ruined else he'd never have passed our medical. Sorry, I'm not having it. I can't bring myself to give him a great reception when he's thrown in the towel to further his own ambitions.
He's more than paid his dues to us this season, was only signed as cover, and his name is spelt NELSEN
No one corrects your grammar but it would be nice to know player's name IMO, so that make us name police
How is it ever a once in a lifetime opportunity? What a load of b*****ks. I'm with stainrod on this. If he has the potential to be a great coach or manager then it will happen whether he takes the job now or another one at the end of the season. He's dumped us and done what he wants. I guess to become a top pro, being selfish is a good characteristic to have......
Seriously Simon, would you turn down an opportunity that would lead you on to the next achievement in your profession? Agree, timing is Sh*t, but we can't deny people opportunities. Nelsen has been a credit since his arrival, played with passion and desire (unlike some that we could mention). If there was any chance of him staying until Mar, I would encourage Harry to try again, but if there is no prospect, let him go with his head held up high. I'm sure that he will still be keen to see how the R's fair from across the Atlantic.

Who says he was signed as cover? I said as soon was we got him he was going to be a first team regular. I also said he was going to be a great signing for us!

So if your company was struggling, and someone offered you your dream job elsewhere, you wouldn't take it? I don't really understand how this works in terms of his contract, can only assume he had a release clause for just this type of situation. I'll give him a good cheer tomorrow, he's a great pro.
I'm not blaming Nelsen (thanks Name Police) for looking after himself now he's coming to the end of his career. And yes I'd do the same myself if I was in a short term career like football. The difference is I wouldn't expect a standing ovation for it. In fact, I'd feel a bit of a charlatan. So while I can understand his personal reasons I'm just saying I don't have to respect or admire him for it by giving him a standing ovation. Plus he was giving it the large one a few months ago about 'being all in it together, roll our sleeves us blah blah'. Hasn't exactly followed his own advice has he? Well that's a real comfort to us then isn't it?
If we'd got a decent fee for our best player, I'd feel less sore about it. But it appears he's just quit and we get nothing. And everyone wants to give him a huge pat on the back for looking out for himself and leaving us in the mire. Nah, he can do one with boos ringing in his ears for all I care. If Adel similarly announced he was quitting to further his career ambitions in a new life at Arsenal, on a free transfer, I wonder if he'd get high fives all round.
