Quick examination. When was the last time Liverpool were out of both the league cup and FA cup in the earlier stages.? Swansea knocked Liverpool out of the league cup and they are to play in the final on the 24th of February 2013. Without pointing the finger at the manager or players we need to do better than this. What is the answer to my question?. "When was the last time Liverpool were out of both the league cup and FA cup in the early stages?..
2 years ago when hodgson was in charge we were knocked out by Northampton and Man U in the fa cup 3rd round in kennys first game.
If you don't win a cup, then I think it's irrelevant when you get knocked out. Concentrate on the league
This If you aren't going to win it then the best scenario is going out at the first hurdle. Europa League...?
I should have wrote 'leagues' But yeah - Europa League and a good finish in the PL would be a successful season for me.
Predicted fifth at the start of the season but I don't see us getting above sixth in the league. Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are all better than us. IMO Everton are too.
Geez I usually agree with your sensible posts but cannot agree with this! Imagine year after year of struggling to challenge for the title, struggling now for champs league, and to top it off getting knocked out of the FA cup and League cup in the 3rd round every season. Except for 1 season every 7 when we win one!!!! May as well merge with Everton!!!!!
agree shanks, this club was built on success and wining trophies, we should be trying our hardest to win any cup all the time, without thinking about juggling with the league for positions.
Haha sorry to disappoint you!! Don't get me wrong, I want us to progress further in cups and really make a good go of it. But is there a difference between going out in the 4th round and going out in the quarters? Not in my book. We should be striving to win the cups but we're out now so now let's focus on the Europa League and the PL.
I like a good cup run, when things look gloomy and miserable I can always take comfort in my deluded hopes of getting to the final and winning a bit of silverware. The whole 'I'd rather get knocked out early if we're not going to win it' it's a strange one, it's impossible to know if we get through that we'll go out at a latter stage, but I get what you mean
Our exit was tactical. We saw Tottenham got themselves out just before us so we had to focus our resources too. Arsenal have been typically clueless and not had any plan at all in the cups: going behind, coming back to win, playing all the way to penalties before they realise they need to lose. Everton had to play first and made the classic mistake of winning their game. A decade without a trophy has made Moyes take his eye off 4th place just when he assembled his best ever team. Good luck to him
Just to clarify, I wouldn't rather get knocked out at all, I'd rather we won it! However, if you are not going to win it then getting knocked out straight away as its benefits in terms of fatigue. As I said above... ...
It was a cunning plan by Tottenham to deliberately get knocked out, according to RRich on their matchthread. "Lol @ Liverpool. At least we went out for a reason; focusing on top 4 and Euro trophy."
And don't forget, with Swansea and bradford competing for the League Cup there's one Europa place gone, and if the FA cup is won by a team outside the top four there's another one gone, meaning we'll have to finish fifth. No chance. Even sixth is beyond us.
That was the general opinion when poor Roy failed against nobodies. We understood, didn't we? Roy's stats being better than Brendan's has nothing to do with the comparison,, though, obviously.
You mean if a team outside the top make the FA Cup final. The runners-up got the spot in this competition but not in the League Cup We could always get into the Europa League as holders
