I just read that back and thatâs me posting in a negative mood, after a crap result and coming in from work ha ha , even for me thats overly negative! oh dear I'll return in a happy mood, one day...will have to ask Sidney for them positive pills
Ha! That's OK. And, for the record, I am not going to defend all of our transfer activity. For a start any policy that results in a squad which contains only two out-and-out strikers is insane. Don't care what the financial restraints and rules are - no top club can have a squad like that. (Another reservation I have is the way players seem to be targeted/bought even during periods where we have no manager. Who is doing this? I understand the logic (outlined in the Soccernomics article posted above) of not having one man decide everything but for the new manager/coach to have, apparently, zero input?!).
I saw a tweet yesterday and maybe someone even posted it on here. - I can't remember, so apologies if I'm repeating anyone. But it was something on the lines of "4 years ago we had Berbatov,Keane,Defoe and Bent. We're now chasing the CL and this current situation is unacceptable." Now perhaps having those 4 was a bit excessive, but how on earth have we gone from 1 extreme to the other, when we've now become more realistic top 4 contenders?
Wonderful news!!...so you still think we don't need another striker?.. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Jermain-Defoe-need-surgery-pelvis-injury.html
if it's true, I'm not actually surprised about this. He's played pretty much every game and this is what can happen as fatigue kicks in.... especially at this time of the year. I'm amazed we haven't seen Vertonghen or Lennon in a similar position to be honest. but these are the knock on effects I mentioned in the summer, when you leave all the business till the last minute. - 3 games without the signings, lack of sufficient firepower, 2 major assets not replaced, and a panic buy in Dempsey, who's not an out and out striker. Injuries will always happen to every club at some point. We had most of ours at the start, but we'll see "3 weekers" starting to crop up now as we get into the final 15 games. The bench lacks any quality whatsoever, in terms of players who can come on a offer something new. And this Holtby saga has just been a bloody joke. How is this still going on? could this Defoe injury be the turning point where Levy just says "**** it, I'm spending!" ? There are lot of fans at the moment who are really losing heir patience, and rightly so.
Levy should have got his ****ing finger out in the summer and got another striker to go with JD and Ade,i'm really pissed off about it strikers are being sold and we aren't buying them, there's a report now that Newcastle are buying Bony
**** sake, with Defoe looking like he's injured, I may have to get my bloody boots out! In all seriousness, like some have touched on, it is a bit weird how we went from having 4 top international strikers to now being left with (a potentially injured) Defoe and an out of form Ade. I'm not even joking when I say this, but I'd seriously welcome Darren Bent back if Villa don't want him and he's a available for a decent price. Yes he doesn't "suit" our system but **** me it's better than having him as an option at the moment than not... Though that said, he'd probably reject us anyway as I still think he's bitter towards us. We just NEED a striker now, I'll be really pissed off if come Friday morning there isn't an interview on Spurs TV Online with our new striker. And Holtby best hurry the **** up too, I can't deal with seeing Huddlestone play anymore, I was such a huge fan of his but his main asset - passing - has become no better than average which pretty much makes him useless now. Looks way out of shape, I know he's never been a slim jim but to me he looks like he's a League 2 player that has a part time job as a bricklayer and enjoys a few beers after each game! Rant over, SoS out.
agreed SOS. he and 1 or 2 others should have made way for a couple of new fresh faces.. and earlier than this. The biggest concern for me is the unbelievable difference in our performances when we rest 2 or 3 key men. we're not just weakened a bit (as would be expected), we're ****ing woeful. the entire EL campaign is evidence of this so far. past the firstXI we fall apart. any injuries now, and we're nakered.
There were posters here who at the start of the season agreed with our illustrious manager that 2 strikers plus Dempsey was enough, when I said it wasn't. A top side does not go into a 4 comp season with 2 recognised strikers, not if they're interested in all 4 comps. No names, but they've all been strangely absent with their views of late.
I'll be honest and say I was one of the people that was amazed Hudd was initially up for sale/ loan in the summer, even though I knew he wouldn't be first choice, he was a great player to have as an option. Now, I really can't wait to get rid of him, sounds bad but the effect he's having on the team when playing is woeful. Whatever has happened to his passing I'll never know but quite frankly, he's a shadow of the player he was and won't have much time this season to prove anyone wrong now we're out of both the FA and COC and I reckon Andre will play a full strength team vs Lyon as we'll need too. Yeah it's really pissed me off at how the first team have completely disrespected the cups this season. Like you said, we've only rested about 2-3 first teamers in the these games and replaced them with a player usually of some sort of international standard/ premier league back ground quality, so to be watching - and I won't mince my words here - absolutely ****ing **** performances is a joke. I was intending to go to Leeds with a mate but he pulled out right before I went to apply for tickets so I decided against buying, I was gutted at the time and actually had a go at him, though it's fair to say he saved me a lot of money and time not travelling to watch the pile of crap that was on show yesterday and I should be thanking him. I was so appalled with the standard of play, the only positive about it is that we won't (or hopefully won't) have to watch any poor, lacklustre showings now.
To be honest Notso think I may have been one, not 100% sure but I think I was satisfied with what we had... THOUGH I did (and still do) mention that I found it strange we didn't keep Saha, he's a great 3rd choice striker in my opinion and while we didn't look like signing anyone, it was weird to let him go.
I seem to remember seeing comments that referred to "AVB's chosen formation", in that we wouldn't require that number of strikers. The joke of it all, is that AVB didn't get to sign any of his own players for his formation! Now we've had to revert back to a 442 because we don't have the right players, which therefore highlights the major striker issue! it's actually quite comical how we really don't help ourselves at times.
Were you?! trust me I've long since forgot tbh, but at the time I felt in the minority...that seems to have swayed now! but fair play for saying so! its more than one or two on here would do!
I don't think that was excessive in the slightest. Our main problem then was that our midfield was lightweight. We've improved the midfield greatly, but now our forward line is lacking in options. In a crazy way I too hope that our current misfortune causes some transfer action. No disrespect to Obika but......

Haha like I said mate I'm not too sure if I was or wasn't (probably was to be honest ). Fair to say now though that I was completely wrong if I did, we desperately need another striker. I'm now at a stage where I don't even care if we sign Holtby/ Moutinho/ Eriksson or any other midfielder, I'd just be delighted to hear an announcement of a new "number 9". Personally think we'll be committing suicide if we don't grab another finisher. Could be deja vu of last season if we're left with what we've got.
Strict one up top 433 wasn't it, 'doesn't matter if the players I've got don't fit, thats how we're playing'....then its 'mm!, thats not so good, but I haven't got enough forwards for a planB involving 2'. The basic planning for a season has been woeful...better not suggest who's fault that is though!
