The news is that QPR have made their first summer signing – and it’s said to be a £1.5M deal for right winger Wayne Routledge from Newcastle.

Newcastle are probably getting their money back on the player they just signed 16 months ago from QPR.

This sale was obviously part of the loan agreement struck with QPR in January.

While Wayne was very good in the Championship for Newcastle, he again struggled in the Premier League this season, and it seems that new manager Alan Pardew did not rate him highly.

That’s one reason Wayne was surprisingly loaned out to QPR in January, but he has again impressed in London, and will now get another chance to show he is a Premier League class player – but not with Newcastle.

Wayne was one of the four players we thought would leave Newcastle in the summer, the other three being Sol Campbell, Shefki Kuqi and Jose Enrique, whom we expect to join Liverpool - for as big a fee as the Magpies can get for him.

Wayne helped Newcastle get promoted last season, and he deserves great credit for that, and we wish the lad all the best of luck back at QPR.

For the record Wayne made 36 appearances for Newcastle with 3 goals and 8 assists, and this year played 19 times for QPR with 5 goals while on his loan spell.

Was not quite up to it for Villa and Newcastle but I still think he is a good signing at £1.5 mill. He does seem to fade as games tick by

tbh i had my doubts when he came back but has been instrumental in our final push. I would say In our top 5 of performers this year and deserves a crack at the PL. i think he is another that benefits from the 5 man midfield we play with licence to get forward.

Just to throw one out there who would you play there if fully fir, mackie or routledge?

I will be intrigued as to how Mackie will do when he comes back . For me he faded badly in Nov and Dec last season after his outstanding start, soon after his international debut actually. I wonder how he will fair next year.

I'm not too sure about this one but he is only 26 years old and with previous PL experience it may just stand to him. plus for 1.5million its not all that bad, lets face it we have signed worse.

    I'm pleased i'll think he'll be ok.

The problem he had at villa and i think at Newcastle, and that he will have next year is that at this level he is a bit of a lightweight and his speed will be nullified by the better defenders he will face but if he can continue to improve his strength, hopefully he will do OK in the premiership.

For the money i think its a good signing, his crosses alone have got to be worth the 1.5 Mil, so long as we sign someone to get on the end of them...

Good value at £1.5m. Delighted to see his signing made permanent.

Routledge seems to be the kind of player who needs to fit the system, and certainly tis season he's been able to shine in our 4-2-3-1 formation. Whether we continue with that in the Prem is another matter, but let's face it - he has pace enough to frighten any defence, he can finish, and he can put quality balls into the area.

He'll be great for us, if this is true. I'm still looking for that target man though - someone like Sir Les thrived on the service he got from our wide men, and if we could get a good big-un up front (I reckon Crouchie would fir that bill superbly for us) then we'll have the best of both worlds - someone who can knock the goals in, as well as hold the ball for the oncoming midfielders.

While I share your doubts, I'm with Willy on this (no jokes please...). Hopefully Warnock has managed to get the best out of him with our formation. He has freedom to roam across the pitch, a chance to use his speed and is able to show off his new found passing skills. Where does this leave Mackie?

I like him running toward goal centrally. If we can use him like that I can see him doing well. Want him to get the ball under control with his first touch, rather than bounce, bounce, tackled.

WR has had a number of chances, each time he has failed to deliver.

This time, once the signing is confirmed, he'll have NW behind him, a manager who has consistently managed to get the best out of underperforming players from clubs up and down the country!

Routledge has tremendous pace, and a very underated finishing ablity. If he is relieved of most defensive duties, and is being played to his strengths, there's no reason why he can't be an important player at prem level. Good signing in my opinion

Yep, it's the Warnock factor, as a couple of you have indicated. He seems to have a wonderful way of dealing with ego's!

Sorry to be a cynic but he won't cut it in the prem. Hasn't before. 99 starts, 1 goal.
