I get the feeling that The Doctor agrees with you. I mean he loves players who give their all to the cause, I don't mean he hates Wednesday.

Just bracing myself for the inevitable e-mails from Owls at work tomorrow. :emoticon-0120-doh:

Sometimes Mondays can be a little challenging...as our contingent of Liverpool and Spurs fans will no doubt find out tomorrow. <laugh>

Good shout, but I don't think so. If there's moves to be made, my guess is that the players we want have already been signed and are waiting in the wings, or have declined and we won't be seeking alternatives.

Think the more likely scenario is players going out - particularly Stephens, who my Villa source insists is still on his way (although I have to say that's looking less and less likely).

I'm sure he'd like to but I don't think it's up to him.

My guess is CP has identified who he wants but the club is waiting to clinch one or more sales to raise the money. Or if loans in, then waiting to clinch loans out.

I think he would have wanted to act at the start of the month. I think if the right deal comes along then we will invest, but with January prices such situations are rare.

i'd like to see us sell hollands, bwp and sullivan to raise a bit of cash, and then buy one creative central midfielder. thats it.

on saturday we had no midfielders to bring on.

I think the club will be hoping for some transfer merry go rounds this week. Some clubs will be looking to raise funds and players can then drop in valuation in order to help finance deals. This is perhaps where I think we'll pick someone up.

Only three in the end, and none with the slightest hint of triumphalism, more like relief that we caved in so spectacularly and handed them the points. There was also confusion that we did nothing to counter the late introduction of Lita - 'because he's not been playing, did you think he wasn't fit enough to be a threat?'.

All three made Waggy the MoM, one said 'by miles'.

None of them are happy with the way they're playing but are trusting in Jones' judgement to keep them up.

The two who hadn't been to The Valley before were full of praise for the ground and the friendliness of our fans they talked to on the way back to the station and on the train. <ok>

I agree in principle but since none of those 3 are considered good enough for our team we wouldn't get much for them. Even the Stephens deal looks less and less likely. One thing we don't need is more squad players, more a case of who is likely to be farmed out to get them off the wage bill, now that our injury list is shrinking. I really can't see the board paying the type of money needed to get in better players than we already have, especially after that set of accounts.

I hope I am wrong but I really can't see anybody coming in.We are not going to raise enough money in sales to enable us to bring in a quality signing. What we don't need is more squad players.

I agree we have no right to expect any nett outlay, and in the light of the info about our possibly dodgy financial situation we should count ourselves lucky if we are able to hang on to the players who are regulars in the match-day 16.

But we could perhaps raise enough by selling 3 or 4 redundant players to buy one who would actually strengthen the first XI (plus reduce the wage bill). SiG suggested BWP, Hollands and Sullivan. BWP's value has plummeted since last season because rarely selected, Hollands' value (such as it is) has dropped through an injury at the worst possible juncture, and Sullivan would always have been a free transfer (or perhaps a nominal fee as a face saver for him). Throw in Green and Kerkar too and we might scrape up a quarter million, enough to buy a better midfielder than we already have. We need a defensive midfielder, SiG, not a creative one, allowing Stephens to concentrate on creating and shooting, and we could get a good one (though admittedly not one with a longer term future) for that sort of money.

Now if it is not possible to do anything because of our finances, I quite understand. We shouldn't complain, considering where we were two years ago. But in that case I would think CP is a complete twit posting on the official site at the start of the window about "getting two or three in" and "being clever in his wheeling and dealing", etc. It makes him look weak and not kept in the picture by his employers. Better to keep a dignified silence and soldier on with the players he has. No one would have blamed him if there is no money to spend.
