They really should have put a thank you to him in there, I just think people have over reacted that they didnt
When I bought the Programme, the first thing I looked for was the Chairmans message explaining what had happened, the fact that there was nothing in it left me bamboozled, still can't think why, but nothing we can do about it, move on.
With greatest of respect, since when have we ever had a "Chairman's Message" section? He just lets the football staff get on with it. No need to make a fuss or interfere to make a bigger deal out of it. Stability is what he preaches, hence why the majority of staff are the same and Pochettino has brought just a couple of his own.
I'm pretty sure the programme was originally sent to the Printers before Adkins was sacked - if he'd put something like that it, it would've been leaked. The reason there was nothing in it was because the team who put it together weren't given any articles\interviews about the sacking in order to keep it quiet. It's not as if Cortese said "Nothing about Adkins in the programme, or else!". After the sacking, there was probably a mad scramble to get some new managers notes to swap directly before they were actually printed so there was no space for an Adkins tribute anyway.
A "Saints fan" has just text into Sky, saying that Cortese hasn't got our short term goals right. He said we should be aiming to stay up for as many years as possible, not aiming for the top 6..... OMG. We have some numpty fans!
Always thought we had a great loyal normal fan base, these past years I have seen we are like any other club.(a few morons that like to be heard above every body else)
Yep, it's very disappointing. However I was very pleased, at least, that we didn't embarrass ourselves with Chelsea-like antics on Monday.
Think we showed our true colours there. Were angry Friday, then thought about it and realised the importance of NC to us and also knew that we needed to support the new manager and team. Don't know what would have happened if our performance had been poor though.
Exactly, there's no conspiracy, air-brushing of history or any of the other wild accusations I've seen hurled around, it was just a simple decision made for pragmatic reasons. At least that's what Occam's razor suggests to me; we'll never know for certain if Cortese declared Adkins name never be spoken by staff again, but I doubt it.
We must win at all costs. We will usher in a new era. We must give ourselves breathing room to grow. We must do all that is necessary to sustain & defend "the southampton way" if you are not with us, you are against us. Those against us will be dealt with. Harshly if necessary. We shall prevail.
Really? Where are those who are not with us being harshly dealt with? We're not crucifying fans of other teams or fans who no longer visit.
Notice snippets from Sky interview are being taken in isolation and meaning changed. Seen it reported that he said it was the perfect time to sack Nigel, when he actually said that once you make your mind up is the perfect time. Sky keep saying that he said ex-players had no right to criticise him, when all I heard was him question how MLT could criticise him when he didn't know him and how does that help the club. perhaps a lesson to us all not to read initial sentences and miss the follow up expansion.
You started well then Oh dear, do you really believe that or was it deliberately provocative to wind us up? I will treat the last four lines with the contempt they deserve, you have become either a very sad individual or a deliberately confrontational one, either way, in my opinion, you are out of order this time, pity.
I had only just posted a similar message on the Echo site, I had a study of the Programme and Page 6 and 7 had been reinserted at a late stage, some of the art work elsewhere dated back to the 15th January, no room for extra articles and I imagine the Printer would have had their work cut out to get the Programmes ready for Monday, a bit of overtime put in over the week-end. Perhaps someone in the Trade could enlighten us?
You are right of course but this was a bit out of the ordinary, and as always opens the field up for speculation and conspiracy theorists.
FLT . I was honestly not aware a thanks was ever issued , all I read was a " While we appreciate / understand " If a THANK YOU was printed then I apologise . Would like to see the statement though .
On OS, Nigel was thanked for the past 3 years in the announcement about the new manager (page 3 of club news).
